It’s Graduation Day 🎓 Today marks a significant milestone! After 6 months of hard work and commitment our second cohort of delegates are graduating from the AtkinsRéalis Carbon Academy. At the risk of sounding like a cheesy awards acceptance speech: big thanks to Elfrida Hamilton-Russell and Gesine Kippenberg from UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) – our co-pilots throughout the journey. Thank you for helping create and deliver such a unique learning experience. Thanks to Phil Davis from AtkinsRéalis L&D for his sound advice and words of wisdom, Sam Mathias for ensuring we look and sound great and to our amazing AtkinsRéalis specialists and guest speakers: Rupert Green, Joe Leadbeater, Katherine Stanger, Hannah Pownall, Victoria Trudgill, Daniel Edmiston, Charbel Charbel, Alfredo Pascual Millán, Tracey Poole, Tamsin Macmillan, Jenny Vieira, Eng. Claire L Seward, Nick Morosi and Paul J Taylor– your passion brought the topics to life for the delegates .... and last but definitely not least, shout-out to the awesome support team of Tamsin Alli-Balogun, Pauline Lai and Lucie Murphy – there are no words! Together we have trained close to 100 staff, now equipped to challenge the status quo, and collaborate with our clients to advocate for carbon reduction and a net zero future. To all our Carbon Academy delegates, congratulations on reaching this milestone! You were amazing! Your enthusiasm and willingness to contribute to the debate has made the past 6 months truly memorable. Stay connected, keep learning, and most importantly go forth and spread the word! #AtkinsRealiscarbonacademy #Engineeringabetterfuture #EngineeringNetZero

📣UKGBC responds to the government's Spring Budget 2025. Today, Chancellor Rachel Reeves set out her plans for the UK economy during her Spring Statement. 💡Simon McWhirter, Deputy Chief Executive of UKGBC, said: "The Spring Statement continues this government's short-term thinking, when what we need are robust spending plans to drive long-term prosperity. The focus on 'builders not blockers', and the desire to water down regulation risks endangering our environment, removing community voices, and delivering homes that are unfit for the future." 🖱Read Simon's full response here: https://lnkd.in/eGTtDJMw

🏡How can we build a resilient, sustainable retrofit ecosystem for all? In our latest blog, Helen Burridge, manager of the Hertfordshire Climate Change and Sustainability Partnership, discusses her experience with UKGBC and The MCS Foundation's Local Area Retrofit Accelerator (LARA). This initiative aims to help local authorities deliver and scale up domestic retrofit schemes in their area. 📚Read Helen's blog here: https://lnkd.in/eHy8WDEh ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 💡Yesterday, we held another Local Authority Retrofit Forum (LARF), which enables authorities to come together in a supportive environment, to connect and collaborate, share challenges and solutions, and hear from sector leaders. Helen was joined yesterday by Alastair Mumford from the The MCS Foundation, Val Mitchell and Rowan Spear from NEC Digital Studio who discussed their persona-based retrofit toolkit, and the variables which impact a person's willingness to engage with retrofit. 🖱Learn more about LARF and our Regenerative Places programme: https://lnkd.in/eiN_zCpD #Retrofit #HomeRetrofit #LocalAuthorityRetrofitAccelerator #RegenerativePlaces

💭Did you know that many solutions exist which can facilitate site selection for Biodiversity Net Gain targets? 🌳Biodiversity Net Gain aims to ensure that all new development projects have a positive impact on biodiversity by requiring a measurable increase in biodiversity from the baseline state. In our latest grouped solutions page, we highlight solutions that provide an easy and fast way to assess sites and produce baseline Biodiversity Unit value. Many also allow users to discover all the opportunities for sites and what possible uplift opportunities exist to allow organisations to take control of land and scenario plans more effectively. 🌿Learn more about these tools here: https://lnkd.in/ef9thWJv We'd like to thank our partner One Click LCA for supporting our Solutions Library. #BiodiversityNetGain #BNG #Biodiversity #NaturePositive

📣UKGBC responds to Great British Energy's project to install solar panels and bring down energy bills for schools and hospitals across the UK. 💡As part of the Government's Plan for Change, Great British Energy's first major project will see £180m invested into rooftop solar for the UK's critical public institutions. This investment will not only protect schools and hospitals from soaring energy bills, but it'll also free up cash for reinvestment into crucial frontline services. Jo Wheeler, Co-Head of Policy & Places at UKGBC, said: "This is great news - funding for solar panels on schools and hospitals through GB Energy is a win-win - shielding critical infrastructure from spiralling fuel bills whilst also adding renewable energy to the grid. This is just one example of how progress towards net-zero can help make our built environment better for both people and planet." 🖱Learn more about our work on Policy & Advocacy here: https://lnkd.in/gAn-cRYT
