Calling all youth workers, support workers, and volunteers! Your insights are crucial in understanding the role youth workers play in keeping young people safe. Take a few minutes to complete this important survey from NYA before Friday, March 14. Your voice matters 👇
The NYA knows that youth workers are a vital component in strategies to tackle youth violence and to protect young people who are at risk of harms. We’re undertaking a survey commissioned by the Youth Endowment Fund (YEF) to understand the vast role youth workers play in and out of youth club settings in keeping young people safe. Whether you’re a youth worker, youth support worker or volunteer – we want to hear your views before Friday 14 March: https://lnkd.in/eHigE-ha BARCA-Leeds is one charity leading the way through one-to-one sessions, group activities and free programmes in schools and communities which aim to support those at risk of or involved in violence or crime. Through sports, cooking, podcasting and VR, the charity equips young people with knowledge about crime and violence, to help them make informed choices. In a recent evaluation report, young people shared that every session takes them “one more step away from the trail of crime,” helping them stay on a positive path. 97% of participants felt better informed about the risks of knife crime and 95% made better choices around drug use. They also reported feeling safer, improving their behaviour and building better relationships at school. Youth workers are key to this transformation. Their voluntary, flexible approach builds trust, validates young people’s experiences and ensures every interaction has purpose — helping them feel seen, heard, and empowered. Help us to understand more about how youth workers support vulnerable young people inside and outside of youth club settings by taking part in the Youth Endowment Fund youth worker survey: https://lnkd.in/eHigE-ha #YouthWork #Safeguarding #YouthClubs

Young people and youth practitioners across England have spoken—and they want more investment in youth work. Our latest research with NCS - National Citizen Service Trust highlights the importance of youth services that are easily accessible to all young people in their local communities, but the growing demand is putting pressure on these services. Oscar Bingham, UK Youth’s Assistant Director of Research & Impact, explains: 👉 “Centre-based youth provision, local to young people in their communities, acts as a springboard for other youth development opportunities. The spaces and support young people engage with should be adapted to meet individual needs, giving them meaningful choice and control about the youth work support they receive, ‘ownership’ of community buildings, and a meaningful voice in shaping the policies that impact them.” With youth services under increasing pressure, this research makes a clear case for sustained investment. 📺 Watch the animation & read the full findings from the 'In our own words' report here: https://lnkd.in/e3ENMFr5

The Government is creating a new ten-year National Youth Strategy to tackle the challenges for this generation of young people and ensure that every young person can thrive 🙌 The National Youth Strategy will bring power back to young people and their communities and improve youth focused services, moving away from a one-size-fits-all approach from Government. 📣 Join us in encouraging and supporting thousands of young people in England aged 10-21 to shape this once in a generation strategy. Last week, the 37th Hope Hack brought together young people from across North Derbyshire at Chesterfield FC’s SMH Group Stadium, hosted by Derby & Derbyshire Violence Reduction Unit and the football club’s community trust. Through powerful discussions and workshops on social media, emergency first aid, drugs, policing, and criminality – including firsthand stories from two former prisoners – young people explored the real issues impacting their lives. They didn’t just listen; they spoke up, shared their experiences, and presented solutions directly to community leaders. 💬 “Young people, no filter, tell you how it is—what’s wrong, but also what’s right and where solutions can be found.” – Nathan Parker, youth worker and spoken word artist. With performances from Strizzy Strauss, Niamh Toner, and Nathan Parker, the event wasn’t just about tackling challenges—it was about hope, empowerment, and action. At UK Youth, we’re proud to be part of the Hope Collective, working alongside young people to create real change in their communities. Read more on our blog: https://lnkd.in/eZbb3cyP
