UK Electronics Skills Foundation (UKESF)

After all these years in semiconductors, this is my first trip to Taiwan. I expected to be impressed but I was blown away at the scale of Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI)(工業技術研究院, 工研院) and of the TSMC campus; great to see what World-leading looks like close-up. Our group has been greatly encouraged by the dialogue so far too; we share a shortage of engineers and a strong gender bias and they have been very impressed by our "Girls into Electronics" program! Everyone we've spoken to so far has been exceptionally open and willing to be collaborative; they have some positive experience of international skills programs already and are keen to build something with the UK. Looking forward to the rest of the trip.

A small UKESF team are visiting Taiwan, paving the way for possible student exchange visits to broaden our knowledge and understanding of semiconductors, demonstrate the global nature of the industry, and help inspire the next generation of graduates. This week, Derek Boyd, Owain Issac and Dr Joe A. Smith will be visiting semiconductor design and manufacturing facilities and universities in and around the country’s capital Taipei.

It's #BritishScienceWeek Did you know that 20% of all UK schools with sixth forms have access to our Electronics Everywhere resources? Developed in partnership with the University of Southampton, the Music Mixer (A level Physics) and Logic & Arithmetic Kits (A level Computer Science) are interactive, engaging resources that teach core Electronics concepts. We’re working hard to ensure that more schoolchildren can learn about Electronics, in an engaging way, and be aware of the opportunities available in this fascinating and important sector.

We’re at the Solent Primary School’s STEM Fair! Today and tomorrow, we’ll be meeting teachers and pupils to demonstrate our new Snap Circuits Activity Isabel Culmer and Owain Issac are joined by some of our fantastic UKESF Scholars, Samarth Basavapatna and Denel Virendrakumar, who will be leading students between the ages of 9 and 11 through the interactive resource to show them how interesting and engaging Electronics can be. The eye of the storm...... Today the onsemi Limerick transition year students had a presentation from Stewart Edmondson from UK Electronics Skills Foundation (UKESF) on engineering careers. They have also made progress on the Arduino projects that will be judged on Friday.
