    Imagination is a highly sought-after skill in technology. 🎆 These skills are often associated with #dyslexia. Yet, a lot of job descriptions are still not accessible for dyslexic candidates. Signify Technology is excited to introduce the new 'FT' (Focus Text Format), designed to make job descriptions easier to read by bolding the first few letters of each word.     TIP NO. 4 👉🏼 Create a structured interview plan and scoring rubric. Structured interviews are much more effective and inclusive than 'winging it' interviews. 85 years of research by leadership scholars showed that unstructured interviews were so ineffective that they only explained 14% of a candidate's performance. Prepare and train your hiring managers for interviews. It's not their job to push candidates until they break! Tech communities are small, so don’t burn your bridges with bad interviews. Create a list of the skills you’d like to test the candidate's competency on, and build structured questions around it with a scoring system. Ensure consistency across every candidate by asking the same questions.     TIP NO.3 👉🏼Build relevant interview panels. No one should make hiring decisions alone. Ensure your interview panels include a diverse representation from both the tech and leadership teams. However, avoid mandating diversity just for the sake of it. For example, including a woman solely "because she's a woman" in a role unrelated to hiring can undermine her credibility and be counterproductive.     TIP NO.2 👉🏼Offer a variety of times and days for interviews. 🧐 Did you know many schools in France close on Wednesdays?  💭 An interview on this day could be inconvenient for parents with young children. 🧐 During Ramadan, many Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset. 💭 An interview late in the day could affect their energy levels and performance. 🧐 Many parents are responsible for dropping their children off at school.  💭 An interview during these times could add extra stress. 🧐 Consider candidates with health conditions or disabilities with fluctuating energy levels. 💭 Scheduling interviews between 10:00-11:00 AM or 1:00-3:00 PM can be more inclusive.     Over the next two weeks, we’ll share tips for inclusive Tech interviews. TIP NO.1 👉🏼Consider take-home tech tests. Recruiters and developers agree that live coding interviews are one of the best ways to assess a candidate's skills. In a recent survey of 13,000 developers, take-home tests were their top choice. Sometimes, they get a bad reputation for being: ⏰ Too time-consuming.  ❌ Not using relevant technology.  👀 Being too easy to fake results. Despite the bad reputation, they remain the favourite—here’s why. 👇 They let candidates code at their convenience, accommodating their schedules, health, families, and commitments. Candidates appreciate the flexibility and reduced pressure. This could boost applications, giving you more talent to choose from.     Great Onboarding Can Improve Employee Retention by 82%. 🚀 Which onboarding would you prefer to have, A or B? Company A: ✅ They provide lunch on your first day. 🥪 You don't eat lunch as there is nothing you like. ✅ They give you your laptop. 💻 You ask for accessibility software to be added, which they say can take a few weeks to set up. ✅ You learn about the company's history. 😇 It's hard to see the writing on the slides from the back of the room, and you are tired from the amount of taking, but you are positive, so it's fine. ✅ They post once a week about Women In Tech and have a diversity page on their website that you can look at. 🤘 It's great information, but you aren't really sure how to use it or what it means. ✅ Your team bonding activity is from 5-9 pm; there are only alcoholic drinks. 🚗 You go to the bar and ask for a Coke. You have to pay more. Instead, you decide to drink and leave your car and Uber home. Company B:   ✅ Dietary requirements were requested prior. 🥪 You get to eat a lunch you like. ✅ Accessibility needs were requested prior. 💻 You open your laptop and see that the requested tech awaits you. ✅ The slides are easy to read, and there are breaks. 😇 You can take in as much info as possible, as it is easy. ✅ There are mentoring and inclusion groups. 🤘You can be mentored by someone more senior and join any group you choose. ✅ Your team bonding activity is from 3-5 pm, and there are alcoholic and non-drinks to choose from. 🚗 You can choose to drink or to leave your car. A more inclusive onboarding process helps new employees feel part of the team sooner, supporting their long-term engagement with your company. #EmployeeEngagement, #WorkplaceCulture, #InclusiveOnboarding
