We were delighted to welcome Exeter MP Steve Race to visit Prof Lorna Harries and her team at the Animalfree Research UK Centre of Excellence (ARC 2.0). Steve toured the labs with Professor Harries and Dr Laura Sinclair, to discuss how their work using human relevant research methods might mean fewer animals are needed in research, and increase the chances that their work will be effective in humans. Launched in 2019, the centre has already found insights into diabetes treatment and prevention. Using human cells, scientists have been able to better understand the changes that can occur in insulin-producing cells in people with diabetes which could help protect them and find new ways to treat the condition.
