A huge congratulations to our Creative Industries students for successfully completing a live industry brief! In just six weeks, these talented students designed and constructed an illuminated Halloween float for the annual Southend-on-Sea City Council Halloween Parade tonight. 🎃 Students pitched, collaborated, and brought their creative vision to life—a real-world experience with client interaction and teamwork at its core. Fantastic work! #CreativeIndustries #USPCollege #HalloweenParade #SkillsForTheFuture #IndustryExperience

Last week, Level 3 Art & Design students visited the Salvation Army Centre on Canvey Island to unveil their paintings. They worked in groups to create large murals based on the term Koinonia, meaning themes of community, and they were able to see the final pieces up on display. 🎨 The project, commissioned by Hilary Johnston and led by teachers Dave Taylor and Adrian Lane, allowed students to put their professional pitching skills to the test as they worked on this live brief. Live briefs allow students to gain an insight into future employment, and gain valuable experience. 👏 The art & design students said they learned how to take on client feedback to develop their designs and the importance of deadlines. They can now use this project in their creative portfolios to bridge the gap between college and careers. 🖌 #LiveBrief #SalvationArmy

Today, we hosted the first of our three annual Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Days, and it was a fantastic success! The day started by waving goodbye to many students who were off on industry visits and university trips - including to the Bank of England, the Supreme Court and Europa House to name a few. We also saw our first cross-college collaborative workshop! Delivered in our Immersive Classrooms students from West London College, North Lindsey College, and Bradford College were also able to engage in the session hosted at our Seevic Campus. The dynamic AI Workshop explored the latest trends and technologies that are shaping our future. It was a great opportunity for students to expand their knowledge and skills. This cutting-edge setup not only enhanced the learning experience but also demonstrated the power of technology - opening opportunities to students across the UK. Thank you, I Immersive, for making these transformative sessions possible! Our T-Level Early Years students spent the day running activities with primary school children from the local area after weeks of planning. This hands-on experience allowed them to apply their skills in a real-world setting while inspiring the younger generation. And let's not forget the completion of our float which students will be showcasing at the Southend Halloween Parade this weekend! These activities are only a snapshot of the hundreds of activities that took place throughout the day. A huge thank you to our College partners and staff for making our CPD Days possible. Let’s continue to learn and grow together! 💪📚

Yesterday our Students' Union gathered at XTEND Digital Campus for their Autumn Student Conference. It was an insightful event with motivating talks from Loudspeaker and student workshops. The members of the Students' Union had discussions about the wider curriculum and took part in societal debates which encouraged positive negotiations and professional communication. 💭 They also learned about the Carli Lansley Foundation, presented by founder Karl Lansley, who is campaigning to fund free ECG screenings to people aged 14-35 in the Southend area. We were proud to listen to our very own A-Level student Jess Lansley bravely speak as an ambassador of the charity, alongside her dad. #StudentsUnion #StudentConference #CarliLansleyFoundation #Loudspeaker

To celebrate World Mental Health Day 2024, yesterday we set up some Tea and Talk stands across the day for staff and students. This year's theme is Mental Health in the Workplace, and it's essential to look after your personal wellbeing and find the balance. 🗯️ Staff enjoyed their morning refreshments with optimistic words of affirmation written on the cups by principal Clare White. We strongly believe that having a positive atmosphere at work contributes to better overall mental health. ☕ Our wellbeing team provide a range of support to students in need, and for staff, our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) gives confidential support and guidance. #WorldMentalHealthDay #TeaAndTalk
