🏆 Meet Mtambo Tionge from Malawi, a Top 10 finalist of the GEMS Education Global Teacher Prize, a Varkey Foundation initiative organised in collaboration with UNESCO! 👩🎓 Tionge’s journey from a child bride to an award-winning educator is a story of resilience and determination. Forced into marriage at 14, she refused to let her circumstances define her future, balancing early marriage with her education and later dedicating her life to safeguarding vulnerable children from similar fates. 🌍 As a teacher in Malawi’s rural Chitipa district, Tionge has tackled barriers like poverty, hunger, and gender inequality head-on. She introduced a school feeding program in 2018, significantly improving attendance and academic performance, and built safe hostels to protect girls from harassment and early marriage. These hostels have become havens for over 15,000 vulnerable learners, helping them stay in school and thrive. 🏅 Her tireless advocacy for girls’ education has earned her numerous accolades, including Malawi’s Best Teacher of the Year in 2022. 🏆 Meet Muhammad Nazmi Bin Rosli from Malaysia, a Top 10 finalist of the GEMS Education Global Teacher Prize, a Varkey Foundation initiative organised in collaboration with UNESCO! 🎭 One of his most impactful innovations is "The Danger-Room," a simulated classroom environment inspired by Marvel’s X-Men comics. From train stations to baby wards, his immersive lessons integrate academic concepts with real-world experiences, broadening his students’ horizons and improving academic outcomes. 🎥 Beyond academics, Nazmi founded The Filpen-Club (short for "Filem Pendek"), teaching students filmmaking while fostering entrepreneurship and collaboration. The club has produced over 50 award-winning short films addressing issues like bullying and corruption. 🚜 During the pandemic, Nazmi launched Malaysia’s first Homework Delivery System, ensuring students in 12 villages could continue learning. He also invented KATO, a paddy-seeding tool that reduced farming time and brought students back to school.
