Tomorrow evening I head to County Durham, to the home of VBITES® and Heather Mills 😍 my favourite famous vegan (my son is my actual favourite ha ha) in preparation to collect a lorry full of #vbites #cheezlybeans that are going to rock community groups across Shropshire and beyond and get to a multitude of levels. Thank you to Steve for agreeing to store them in your logistics whilst we get them out there. Iona Huang for fundraising for the lorry and John Varey From VBites for offering us this incredible opportunity to accept a pallet that accidentally grew to 26 pallets. Looking forward to lots of conversations with my driving companion Andy Lewis who has taken a shine to our NotJUST branding and will be no doubt be keeping me awake with his exciting ideas! The biggest thanks is that when we're donated food, sometimes we're told we can't sell it - however, we're a three tier step out of food insecurity and the third step is VITAL for our community. The first is that moment when you have nothing - it is humiliation beyond belief. The second tier is when people can feel like they're contributing a small amount so they can use a food bank without feeling like they shouldn't. The third - the one I am most passionate about - that step back towards shopping where you can shop like a grown up and buy whatever you need for pennies not pounds... and the twist is that it's so inclusive so that people do not feel segregated, because it's a waste warrior shop that anyone can use (if we don't do this, many would be too embarrassed to come) - and any extra funds/donations help us pay our bills. When you walk around our shop you can't tell who is 'poor' and who is not - in that brief moment - we are equal. Dignity restored in an undignified moment in our lives. We have revolutionized food banks to be Three Tier with dignity and choice. We are pioneering a food surplus pathway into our community. Thank you Heather. The orange food truck is back at Bonn! 🤩 🌭 Members of the Plant Based Treaty team are outside the Bonn Climate Change Conference entrance giving away FREE vegan hotdogs from VBITES® to delegates. They are so popular that some faces are becoming familiar as they queue up multiple times today! We are also asking attendees to take a pledge to go vegan during the 11-day conference to do their bit for the climate.
