We've always known there is a huge opportunity for #privacyenhancingtechnologies to unlock value in the highly sensitive data that government holds. That's why we are thrilled to announce we are a finalist in the Scottish Government's Civtech programme on challenge 10.4, where we will be refining our PETs powered data sharing proposition to answer their internal data sharing needs. The next step is the Exploration stage, where we have the opportunity to learn more about the challenge as well as engage with industry experts about how best to refine our proposal. Becoming a supplier to the Scottish government as part of this work is a huge milestone for us. None of this would be possible if it wasn't for CivTech Scotland breaking down the barriers to innovation. Kick off is on Monday 11th - we are off to Edinburgh! ✈

Re-inventing how organisations share data with each other, using Privacy Enhancing Technologies to boost GDPR compliance
About us
When organisations share data, it drives innovation, leads to better decision making, improved services and even fights crime. The challenge for data protection teams, is that with any sharing of data, comes risk, particularly if that data is sensitive. The old ways of sharing data simply are not good enough anymore. Verifoxx is re-inventing how organisations share data. We offer a secure-by-default ecosystem for organisations to safely collaborate on data, allowing questions to be asked of data, but without the original data ever leaving its owner. This allows the benefits of data sharing to be realised, without compromising on compliance. We use 4 major Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PETs) as defined by the ICO - Zero Knowledge Proofs, Multi-Party Computation. Trusted Execution Environments and Partial Homomorphic Encryption - to deliver our solution. Our advances in next gen cybersecurity are not just in our product but in our research too. Our expertise in security has made us one of a select few of UK companies involved in the leading Digital Security by Design research programme. We are working together with ARM and the University of Cambridge, on making the future of the UK's computing infrastructure more secure. Verifoxx. Re-inventing how data gets shared.

It was an amazing moment for us recently to present our solution at the Guildhall in London. We were invited by the City of London to demonstrate how we've used some amazing synthetic data, made available to us as part of the FCA's Digital Sandbox, to build a prototype that enables banks to share financial intelligence, without exposing each other's data. #privacyenhancingtechnologies #datasharing
Advancements in financial tech have revolutionised finance – bringing convenience, transparency and access to customers. But these advancements also come with challenges, and combatting #cybercrime and #fraud is one of the biggest challenges facing global financial services. We must be as innovative in defending our financial system as we are in building it. We at the City of London Corporation recognise that to stay ahead in a rapidly changing world, we must foster and invest in the right ideas and talent. And we are proud to spearhead innovations that help the industry develop world leading solutions. Yesterday, I was pleased to mark one year of the City of London Corporation’s collaboration with the Financial Conduct Authority, and Smart Data Foundry. Working together we built a synthetic dataset to support the development of technology solutions that can detect and defend against Authorised Push Payment or APP fraud. This dataset has been housed on the Permanent Digital Sandbox and enhanced, taking on feedback from users across the financial services and technology sectors. The data has been available to firms to help them test and develop products and solutions to detect and combat APP fraud. And it has been a huge success. Over the past year we have seen over 90,000 calls on this data from 38 different projects, the majority of which have utilised the dataset to develop and validate technology products to combat fraud. It was inspiring to hear, today, from Seiza, FinCrime Dynamics and Verifoxx about the solutions they have been working on. That is why I’m so pleased that the FCA have confirmed that they will keep access to this dataset open for a further year. This project demonstrates the power of collaboration between regulators, industry leaders, and innovators, all working together to create solutions that will safeguard our financial system. And we look forward to continuing our work with all our partners and with the industry to keep the UK at the forefront of innovation in financial services #tech. 🎊 We are thrilled to see that the US has passed new legislation on Privacy Enhancing Technologies. This is the first time a government has legislated for their research and investigation in protecting citizen's personal information. The legislation is called the Privacy Enhancing Technologies Research Act and paves the way for different US agencies to research and understand how different PETs can anonymise, protect and mitigate privacy risks during the storage or sharing of personal data, including children's data. The act is described as bringing the US "one step closer to ensuring that no American’s data is exploited online". Exciting to see PETs being recognised for the advancements they can bring 👏 #privacyenhancingtechnologies

🚀 Exciting News on the Application of PETs in Age Verification! 🚀 The Open Technology Institute (OTI) has shared some compelling recommendations in their latest report. They emphasize the importance of using #PrivacyEnhancingTechnologies (PETs) for age verification, as opposed to other age assurance methods including age estimation techniques. Why does this matter? 🤔 In simple terms, age verification processes are becoming more common, especially in platforms requiring age-appropriate content control. However, how to verify someone's age can significantly impact user privacy and data security, because personal data gets exposed, right? Wrong! One of the OTI's key recommendations states that Zero Knowledge Proofs, one type of Privacy Enhancing Technology, show that privacy-respecting age verification is possible by offering a more secure and privacy-friendly way of confirming someone's age without necessarily revealing any additional personal information. It’s like confirming you're old enough to view a film without having to show your entire ID card. On the other hand, age estimation techniques, which often rely on biometric data (like facial recognition), may introduce unintended privacy concerns. While they might seem efficient, they could potentially expose users to unnecessary data collection or misuse. 📢 As a startup specialising in PETS, it's crucial we are part of the education effort about PETS and the huge benefits they can bring to both businesses (who need to verify their users) and society (by preserving data privacy). 💡 The OTI's recommendations could pave the way for more privacy-conscious age verification methods, setting a standard for the industry. 👋 If you need to verify the age of your users in your store, your app or your website and want to learn more about why PETs make sense, drop us a comment below saying "Interested". 🌟 Code Pioneered in UK Forces Tech Firms to Implement Safety Changes 🌟 The UK's pioneering Children's Code is reshaping the digital landscape, mandating tech giants to prioritise the protection of young users. 💪 Research reveals that nearly 100 changes have been made across major social media platforms, ensuring that youngsters only access age-appropriate content. 📱💻 Championed by The Telegraph as part of its Duty of Care campaign and introduced under the 2018 Data Protection Act, the Children’s Code holds tech firms accountable, with fines of up to four percent of their global turnover for non-compliance. States across the US, including California, and countries like the Netherlands, Ireland, Sweden, Canada, and Australia have also embraced similar measures, recognising the importance of safeguarding digital natives. 🌍 From TikTok implementing curfews on push notifications for teens to Instagram refining content filters, these changes mark a significant milestone in creating a safer online space. 👨👩👧👦💻 #ChildrensCode #OnlineSafety #ageappropriatedesign #ageverification Find out more 👉 https://lnkd.in/ePhxCPSi
