We're delighted to be working in partnership with TransPennine Express on a joint campaign to promote Leeds as a city-break destination for people travelling from Newcastle. Launching on 24 March 2025, and running throughout the year, we will be working together with TransPennine Express to inspire even more visitors to explore Leeds. Exclusive content will showcase the city and everything it has to offer as a destination, encouraging visitors to Leeds to travel by train establishing TransPennine Express as the train provider of choice (with a travel time of just 90 minutes). The campaign will highlight the city’s spring and summer calendar of festivals and major events including Millennium Square Summer Series, Live at Leeds, Leeds Festival, Pride and Leeds Carnival, as well as major sports events at Headingley Stadium. It will also highlight Leeds’ unrivalled independent music and gig scene plus the fantastic food and drink offer. Read more below.
About us
VisitLeeds is the official tourism body for the city of Leeds and the surrounding area. Leeds sits at the heart of the UK, surrounded by magnificent countryside and just 50 minutes by train from Manchester and 25 minutes to York. Leeds is a haven for shoppers, lovers of culture, party animals and food buffs, whilst at the same time providing the perfect getaway to the Yorkshire countryside. Leeds is now the third largest shopping destination in the UK outside London so you are never more than a few steps away from a great shopping experience in Leeds. If culture is your thing, Leeds won’t disappoint. It has more than its fair share of stately homes, historic buildings, museums and galleries to keep you occupied – highlights include Harewood House, Temple Newsman, The Henry Moore Institute, Leeds City Museum and the Leeds Art Gallery. Leeds’ heritage as a city of entertainment is a long and illustrious one and continues to flourish today. The city boasts both its own opera –Opera North – and ballet – Northern Ballet –companies. Plus the first direct Arena, a 13,500 capacity venue which is the UK’s first purpose-built, fan-shaped ‘Super Theatre’ arena. Leeds has always been held in high esteem in the food and drink realm. In recent years the city has come into its own with the opening on a number of independent cafés and restaurants around the city. From Michelin starred restaurants to street food stalls in Leeds Kirkgate Market and Trinity Kitchen serving up an ever changing variety of exciting cuisines, Leeds has something for everyone. www.visitleeds.co.uk

For all our visitors there are just some things that can't be missed and are always worthy of repeat visits. Our recommendations for the Top 7 Places To See are; the Victorian Arcades; the Corn Exchange; Kirkgate Market; the Royal Armouries; the Leeds Art Gallery; our Street Art trail (this incorporates the whole city but the whole city deserves to be seen); and Leeds Dock's Water Taxi. We have done this content as a video too: https://lnkd.in/ekDPVN7z #EnglishTourismWeek25 VisitEngland #itinerary #thingstodo #tourism

English Tourism Week started off with an event packed weekend here in Leeds. We welcomed over 5,000 guests for the Leeds Holi Festival, around 50,000 people for the annual St Patrick's Day Parade, and many more at other events like the Leeds Alternative Weekend, and shows at our theatres like Northern Ballet's Jane Eyre and Animal Farm at Leeds Playhouse. Leeds is a city that loves to entertain with a vibrant variety of events for everyone! Last week we had a fantastic tour of Bradford City Centre by Blue Badge guide Sarah Cowling, which will be fully developed into a tour for the Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture Programme. We learnt so much and think it will be invaluable to everyone visiting the city as well as locals to learn more about the industrial heritage of Bradford. Also enjoyed a nice pink Kashmiri Chai to end the tour!
