This marble bathroom is a great example of the beauty of craftsmanship and materiality. In collaboration with gmistonework, every surface has been meticulously designed and finished to highlight the natural veining and richness of the stone. Nick Walton reflects on the last week of networking in Cannes. As our time in Cannes comes to an end, it’s clear this has been a highly insightful week. From reconnecting with industry peers to discussing the industry’s challenges and opportunities ahead. The unusually rainy weather provided a few challenges, but it certainly didn’t dampen spirits or the productive conversations we had! Our strategy this year was Quality not Quantity with some fantastic networking events—including some memorable lunches at Bijoux Plage with our hosts, Matthew Tillman and Formation Architects, as well as a lovely lunch with ASG & Franchi, and an evening of networking drinks on the beach hosted by Watson Farley & Williams—several key industry themes dominated discussions. The planning backlog and the increase pressures with the BSA and High-Risk Building criteria and processes – slowing down investment and production were a recurring concern, with calls for a review and even suggestions to privatise the process to improve efficiency. The rising cost of construction and insurance remains a significant challenge, alongside growing concerns around contractor solvency. Discussions around market confidence highlighted its fragile state, yet there is a quiet optimism for 2026, with many seeing long-term potential despite current uncertainties. Investment and development in the residential sector were also major talking points, from prime residential trends to the future of large country houses and estates. The ongoing skills shortage was another key issue, affecting all areas of the industry and shaping the way businesses plan for the future. A big thank you to everyone who contributed to these useful discussions and made this week so valuable. We look forward to continuing the conversations and building on the momentum in the months ahead. #Networking #Cannes #realestate #Industry #waltonwagnerbuild

Both were fantastic occasions to catch up with familiar faces and meet new contacts. Mauro Serrano at Walton Wagner shares a thoughtful approach to sustainability in high-end property development. Balancing aesthetic ambitions with environmental responsibility is a challenge for both developers and designers. Sourcing high-quality, sustainable materials that align with luxury standards often comes at a premium but as the luxury property sector evolves, so do the possibilities for sustainable innovation. Advances in construction techniques, including high-insulation materials, heat pumps, and solar energy, are making sustainability more accessible and cost-effective. These innovations not only enhance the environmental footprint of luxury developments but also set new standards for the industry as a whole. On our projects, we prioritise the reuse and recycling of materials wherever possible. Items removed during strip-out and demolition are repurposed, resold, or responsibly disposed of. We also work closely with consulting teams and clients to explore sustainable upgrades that align with both environmental and project goals. #propertydevelopment #sustainability #environment #greenpractices
