Waste Investigations Support & Enforcement (WISE)

On Tuesday 11th March, our Manchester Team Manager and dedicated Enforcement Officers teamed up with the Keep Manchester Tidy group for a major clean-up effort along the Yellow Brick Road—a 3-mile walking and cycling route stretching from Clayton, through Openshaw, and into Gorton. Together, they collected a staggering 260 bags of litter and fly-tipping, making a visible and positive impact on the area. Our Social Values & Communities Manager, Darran, recently visited Sladefield Infant School in Birmingham to deliver an engaging and educational anti-littering presentation. During the session, students explored the environmental impact of litter, the dangers it poses, and practical ways to reduce waste and pollution. Through interactive discussions, they discovered how small, everyday actions can lead to a cleaner, healthier planet for both people and wildlife.♻️🌍 The headteacher praised the session, stating: “We really appreciated the assembly that Darran led about litter. Our children were engaged by the content of the PowerPoint—it refreshed their knowledge about littering while also teaching them new information. They were amazed at how long different items take to biodegrade! They also enjoyed the song, which helped them remember key facts about littering.”🗑️ He added: “Darran was very aware of the children’s ages and adapted the presentation to make it age-appropriate. WISE has recently donated 200 essential items to Luton Foodbank, with one of our Enforcement Officers, Umer, assisting with the delivery. Established in 2013, Luton Foodbank is an independent, community-driven nonprofit dedicated to tackling food poverty. They collaborate with schools, churches, businesses, and voluntary groups to ensure that those in need receive vital support.🍽️ Through a trusted referral network—including healthcare workers, social workers, and charities—Luton Foodbank provides free, nutritionally balanced food parcels designed to last at least three days, offering immediate relief to individuals and families struggling with food insecurity.🍏 But their mission goes beyond food aid.
