When we started planning our Rescue to Recycle launch, we knew we wanted something extra special to celebrate these unique sunglasses, and set them apart from the rest of our range. Over the past few months, Melissa Northen has been working with fellow Cornish business Tiny Box Maker, to design and make bespoke packaging for our rescue to recycle sunglasses. On the sleeve and lid of box, you’ll find unique artwork from marine wildlife artist Rachel Brooks, depicting the whale that was entangled in the very ropes these sunglasses are made from, while inside there’s a booklet of photos from the rescue. And if you’re not one to hoard and cherish beautiful packaging, they’re fully recyclable too!

When we started planning our Rescue to Recycle launch, we knew we wanted something extra special to celebrate the launch, and make this range unique from anything we've done before. Enter marine wildlife artist Rachel Brooks! Working alongside Melissa and the rest of the team, Rachel produced an INCREDIBLE illustration for us, depicting the entangled humpback in an insane level of detail, that now features on our bespoke Recycle to Recycle sunglasses packaging (made here in Cornwall!), as well as the T-Shirts we've created to support the launch. There's even a tiny whale illustration by Rachel on the temple of each pair of the sunglasses! As part of our Rescue to Recycle campaign, Harry and Gavin jumped on the WeWhale.co podcast with Tom Mustill and Sophie Lewis from the World Cetacean Alliance to talk about the project, the problem of ghost gear and how we can tackle it. Hearing Tom's first-hand accounts of whale entanglements was both incredible and sobering and we urge you to take a listen! Rescue *From* Recycling! 🙌 These two little shrews have been rescued from ropes collected at Cadgwith and are now with Rock View Vets in Roche, where they'll be looked after. It’s something we’re very mindful of at our storage facility in Cornwall. Because of the amount of fishing gear we’re collecting and storing, we’re bound to come across other forms of wildlife at some point. Luckily, Jake and Eve were to the rescue! 🛟

In partnership with the World Cetacean Alliance, we’ve transformed ghost fishing gear recovered from a humpback whale rescue mission into 352 limited edition pairs of sunglasses. Each frame is crafted exclusively from the very ghost gear that nearly claimed the life of a humpback whale last year, and is individually numbered as part of this exclusive release. £50 from each pair sold will be donated to the World Cetacean Alliance, helping to fund ongoing whale, dolphin and porpoise conservation. Only 352 pairs now available for pre-order, secure yours at - https://waterhaul.co/r2r

We’re stoked to be collaborating with the World Cetacean Alliance as part of our Rescue to Recycle Campaign. The World Cetacean Alliance, known for its unwavering commitment to the protection of cetaceans, plays a crucial role in safeguarding whales, dolphins, and porpoises across the globe. Their mission to unite and empower individuals, organisations, and communities to take meaningful action aligns perfectly with our own values and goals. Together, we are not only shining a spotlight on the dangers of ghost fishing gear, but we’re also demonstrating the immense potential of collective effort. Through this partnership, we hope to inspire others to take part in the movement and contribute to a healthier future for our oceans.
