Pottery, knives, bones and phallic good luck charms are amongst the huge treasure trove of Roman artefacts joining our museum collection, thanks to a generous donation by Bloomberg Philanthropies, which marks the single largest archive of archaeological material the museum has ever received. This world-renowned collection of artefacts uncovered during construction of Bloomberg's European headquarters in the City of London is accompanied by a transformative gift of £20 million to support the creation of our new museum in Smithfield, opening in 2026. We’re grateful to Bloomberg Philanthropies for their extraordinary support in preserving this collection for future generations, and for championing the development of a place that we hope Londoners will be truly proud of. Read more about how these donations will contribute to “one of the most ambitious cultural projects globally”, and how finds from one of London’s most significant excavations will be made available for display and research, here: https://bbc.in/4iyPqvT Sharon Ament Mike Bloomberg Patti Harris

A new home for an iconic London landmark   You’ll soon be able to see Banksy’s striking piranha artwork up close at our new home in Smithfield, opening next year!   We were gifted this incredible piece - originally painted on a City of London Police sentry box—from The City of London Corporation.   The artwork made waves last summer as part of Banksy’s animal-themed series. Our museum holds graffiti dating way back to Roman Londinium but this will be the first piece of contemporary street art in our permanent collection. We can’t wait for you all to see it.
