15 years ago, I identified that one of the biggest barriers to a women’s success in the workplace was herself! Yes, we had to battle in a male dominated arena which was a hard enough task in itself, but it was our own lack of confidence in our abilities, listening to the voices in our heads which enabled the feelings of imposter syndrome which I found to be the real barriers which needed to be addressed. 10 years ago, Lara and I launched the Women In Music Awards to shine a light on the achievements of so many exceptional women who were trail blazing and paving a path for women in the industry. Giving these women recognition, a platform to have a voice, inspire other women and create a network for change. 10 years on, we continue to champion women, UK Music’s 2022 Diversity Report found that while women occupy a large proportion of entry-level music industry positions (63.5%), women are still underrepresented overall at senior level, accounting for less than half (45.1%) of senior leadership jobs. And so, our work continues…..
