We've been included in TechRound's annual TR100 campaign, celebrating the most innovative and exciting startups across the U.K. and Europe. Last year we were at 79, and one year later we're at 59! We've been making incredible changes to our business with hourly-paid workers at the heart of it. WAC is the #1 app for hourly-paid workers who want to take charge of their work life and finances
About us
We ensure every minute of work is accounted for, empowering hourly-paid workers to break free from disorganisation and feel good about money. With years of experience working in hospitality, our Founder and CEO, Georgina Fairhall, encountered the same problem in every job - she wasn't getting paid correctly. Hours would frequently be missed, breaks wouldn’t happen, and she was routinely expected to work beyond her finish time to 'support' the team. Rather than complaining, George decided to become part of the solution by founding her startup, WAC. Fairhall launched WAC in 2020, one week before a national lockdown, after stepping away from a potential law career to champion low-paid workers. In April 2024 she introduced the business' first revenue stream achieving an ARR of just under £100k within 3 months with ambitions of turning over £18m in year three, boosting the tech sector, recruitment, and economy in the North. George has repeatedly been advised to move her business from Leeds to London, however has worked hard to raise £1m angel investment as a non-technical and sole female founder - making her the highest-risk investment. Despite on-going challenges, George's resistance has secured funding and propelled WAC to a revenue-generating scale-up, and she hasn't looked back.

Can't stop won't stop 😝 Up for Most Innovative Business Idea of the Year by The British Business Awards, presented by SmallBusiness.co.uk. There isn't a minute, a day, or an award that goes by where I'm not grateful for the recognition and love we receive 💜 https://lnkd.in/eA4BDv4u

WE WON 🏆 🏆 🏆 🏆 🏆
WE WON WE WON WE WON THE FUTURE OF WORK AWARD! #ImpactSummitAwards2024 by Digital Leaders in London last week. Thanks to everyone who voted for the peoples choice awards too. It was unbelievable how much support we had. Unfortunately we didn't quite bag that one but we won the big one! (Look at that hefty award too. Nearly dropped it, it's a good one for our growing awards shelf). This was quite an intensive application process so it feels even more rewarding. Thanks Eden Heath the best Marketing/PR Lead ever, who tells our story so beautifully. Also to Chris Luff MBE and Alexandra Birtles for judging our category and having such nice words to say about WAC - Work & Money Management App on stage. Finally Robin Knowles and Leigh Smyth FRSA for hosting such an important and special event.

NOW THEN... HERE'S ONE FOR THE NORTH 💜 (South I love you too, but this one's for Leeds) When I started building WAC and started fundraising I really didn't know where to start. I thought I had to be 'where the money was' and didn't even really know what that meant. I stayed put in a city that didn't have too many businesses like mine and managed to build a reputation, as well as a supportive network, get some amazing press and ultimately get WAC the recognition it deserves. This has helped us reach workers in need and become one of the few northern companies invested in outside of London. I don't know the stats (someone please comment) but I know it's small! Genuinely, thank you to anyone who has supported me and WAC and been part of the journey. Couldn't have done it without ya! ...and thank you TechBlast UK for such a brilliant article. https://lnkd.in/enpiYQ3G
