About us
Willowbrook Hospice is an Independent Charity established in 1993 by local people to raise funds to build and run a Specialist Palliative Care Unit. Our Services We currently have 9 inpatient beds and hold weekly outpatient clinics. Although approximately three quarters of our patients have cancer, we treat other life-limiting diseases such as motor neurone disease, end stage heart failure, and lung disease. We work very closely in partnership with the local health care community to improve the quality of life for those people living with their illness. We liaise with the Hospital Specialist Palliative Care Team, the Community Specialist Palliative Care Team and the local Primary Care Teams, including local GPs and district nurses. Although we provide care for patients at the end of their lives, our statistics show that many of our inpatients are discharged back to their preferred place of care, usually home, dispelling the myth that a hospice is just a place where you go to die. Education The Hospice has an important remit in leading and delivering an integrated Palliative Care Education programme to all healthcare professionals across the locality. This ensures that patients are cared for in the best possible way in their preferred place of care, wherever that setting may be. Funding Our care is totally free to patients but is not free to provide. It costs over £5m per year to run the Hospice Organisation. We are part-funded by the NHS, who make a contribution of approximately 26% towards our running costs. This means that we have to rely on donations from our generous supporters and our own fundraising efforts to raise the remaining 74%. This enables us to provide support to patients and their families according to their individual needs.

Today's office view was something special, Knowsley Hall provided the perfect backdrop for the Willowbrook Hospice Ladies Committee’s annual Ladies Lunch. A huge thank you to the inspirational Gill Burns MBE who shared her incredible journey in Ladies Rugby. Wishing you the best of luck at Twickenham, where you’ll finally get to step onto that legendary turf! We’re also so grateful to the Barclays UK team, who kindly attended to facilitate the raffle, helping to raise over £1,100 on the day. Final fundraising totals will be announced soon, but one thing is certain, it was a day filled with generosity, community spirit, and unwavering support for Willowbrook Hospice. Since my Grandma passed away from a short battle with cancer 2 years ago on March 27th, I promised myself that I would raise money, in her memory, each year for a charity she held close to her heart. Willowbrook Hospice . This year I am fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity to run the Athens Marathon on November 9th - Athens marathon is regarded as the authentic marathon, it is also known as being one of the toughest with an uphill climb from the 10km mark to the 31km mark. Before Athens, I will be running Manchester Marathon on April 27th. This will be my first time running the marathon distance. Running has really been my escape when I have been struggling and I want to push myself to do this. Any donations are greatly appreciated, I will be self funding my travel and accomodation to Athens, as well as my entry fee to Manchester, so all donations will go directly to Willowbrook to allow them to care for people's loved ones when they need them most. We are so thrilled to share that St Helens RLFC continues to support Willowbrook Hospice with the Club welcoming donations of Men’s clothing at two upcoming home Super League matches at the Totally Wicked Stadium. Our ten shops around the St Helens and Knowsley area, are vital to raising income to ensure that the hospice continues to provide free specialist palliative care for patients with complex needs across our local community. At the moment, the shops are in need of more men’s clothing items due to a shortage, so the Saints are lending their support. Donations will be welcome via a Willowbrook Hospice van that will be located outside the ground at their upcoming home fixtures against: · Warrington Wolves (this Friday 21st March) · Wakefield Trinity (Friday 11th April) If you are a Saints fan that will be having a spring clear out, please consider donating any of your unwanted, good quality men’s clothing items to Willowbrook Hospice through our shops or at the two upcoming home matches. I swapped the hard hat for the dance shoes this lunchtime and met my lovely dance partner Mark whom I’ll be dancing with at the Willowbrook Hospice Glitter Ball event this October. We started to put together our routine with the help of Marie from Silhouette Dance School. ⭐ Thank You Tuesday! ⭐ We were so pleased to have welcomed some corporate volunteers recently from Sodexo Live! UK & Ireland at ACC Liverpool who have been helping in our Prescot and Kirkby shops. The teams spent their day helping with listing Ebay items, building furniture to sell and sorting out donations which will then go out onto the shop floor to be sold to help raise funds for our hospice. A huge thank you to everyone who helped, your hard work makes a huge difference!
