This Black History Month, Wimbart took to the streets of London for an exciting scavenger hunt, celebrating Britain’s rich and diverse heritage. Visiting some of London’s most iconic landmarks, the team raised funds for akt in an independent capacity. akt is the only national charity dedicated to supporting LGBTQ+ individuals aged 16-25 who are at risk of or are currently experiencing homelessness. They provide essential resources to support young people in need, including toothbrushes, heated blankets, and housing support. For us, the statistics are sobering. According to akt’s 2023 report, 24% of queer young people aged 16 to 25 have faced homelessness, and the numbers tripled for those from Black, Asian, and minority ethnic backgrounds. With rough sleeping on the rise, the impact on the Black community is both urgent and critical. Through our scavenger hunt, we aimed to shine a light on these pressing issues while honouring the diverse narratives that shape our community. Wimbart is incredibly proud to support akt in its mission to provide essential resources, advocacy, and safe spaces for young people in need. As we reflect on the past this Black History Month, we also encourage you to look forward and consider how we can all contribute to a more inclusive future.
