What You’ll Do: Assist in leading daily kitchen operations and maintaining high standards. Work closely with the F&B team to enhance product knowledge and increase the customer experience Oversee food preparation, ensure consistency, and maintain quality control. Manage inventory, ordering, and supplier relationships. Supervise and mentor Edge Hotel School students and junior members of the kitchen team. Uphold safety, hygiene, and cleanliness standards. What We’re Looking For: Proven experience as a Sous Chef or in a similar leadership role. Strong knowledge of culinary techniques, food trends, and ingredient selection. A passion for creativity and an eye for detail in plating and presentation. Leadership skills with the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. 🎊We would like to congratulate two of our team on marking their 10th work anniversary at Wivenhoe House Hotel this weekend🎊 Louise our Sales Manager & Sean are Deputy GM play a very important part in the operation that runs the hotel. Louise had this to say about the last decade she has spent as part of the team. What aspects of your job do you enjoy the most?  I have been very lucky to have progressed through the hotel, first 9 months on Reception, then changing to C&E Operations, with the goal of joining the Sales team which happened thankfully very quickly, this is where I am happiest on my journey here at WHH. The team are great to work with day in and day out and I enjoy the experience we give all the couples and clients, that help build memories in the events that we arrange for them. How would you describe the team dynamics and culture here?  Such a friendly team and all the departments work so well together What advice would you give to new employees joining the hotel?  I would hope they enjoy working here as much as I have, try to learn a little from each department as well as their own, this will help build working relationships and educate them about the hotel so much quicker. Well we are hiring for a Junior Sous Chef position 👨🍳 👩🍳 Job description: The successful candidate will be part of a brigade of chefs delivering quality brasserie food to both hotel guests and non-residents, as well as delivering food to the events spaces as required. This will encompass everything from corporate lunches to wedding breakfasts. If you are proactive, ambitious, have an eye for detail and a real passion for creating fresh, locally sourced dishes then we’d like you to join our team. An understanding of menu design, allergens and dietary requirements would be beneficial as would knowledge of menu pricing. They would also need to be confident leading a team as well as working as part of one. Candidates will have experience as a chef at a similar level but the role would suit someone looking for their next career progression opportunity. The role is based on a 48-hour week, worked on a rota basis five days in seven. Responsibilities: The duties of this post, some of which will require physical effort such as standing for long periods of time and working in hot conditions will include the following:- 1. Preparation and production of high-quality foods in all areas including but not limited to The Park Brasserie, lounge, conference and events 2. Working within agreed budgets and regulations, and meeting budget targets 3. Supervising and mentoring Edge Hotel School students and less experienced brigade members 4. Work closely with the Food and Beverage team to enhance product knowledge and increase the customer experience 5. Some planning, pricing and development of menus 6. Ensuring the highest level of food hygiene in the kitchen at all times 7. Ensure health and safety legislation is complied with in the Kitchen areas 9. Preparation of all services which at times may include breakfast and staff food 10. Assisting with the day to day delivery of a 4* guest experience 11. Any other such duties that may be required from time to time by the Head Chef or their nominee Wivenhoe House is home to the Edge Hotel School; students studying a degree in hospitality Skills and experience required: Previous experience of working in a quality hotel or quality restaurants Working knowledge of budgets and waste management COSHH knowledge Experience of organising, prioritising and managing a section Experience of coaching/mentoring in a kitchen environment Cook to a standard expected in a four star hotel Ability to supervise a small team Attention to detail Creative and flexible approach to work Excellent communication skills Calm and well organised approach to work Passion for excellence in customer service Join our team as a Junior Sous Chef and be part of a dynamic culinary environment where your skills will be valued, and your creativity encouraged.
