About us
Women’s Aid is the national charity working to end domestic abuse against women and children. We are a federation of over 170 organisations that provide just under 300 local lifesaving services to women and children across England. For 47 years we have campaigned on behalf of our members and survivors to shape policy and practice, and to raise awareness of domestic abuse. Our support services, which include our Live Chat Helpline, the Survivors’ Forum, the No Woman Turned Away Project, the Survivor’s Handbook, Love Respect (our dedicated website for young people in their first relationships), the national Domestic Abuse Directory and our advocacy projects, help thousands of women and children every year.

Our CEO, Farah Nazeer, spoke to The Guardian for an article about Labour’s pledge to halve violence against women and girls. The Government has announced the ‘first steps’ of policy shift but given little detail on how it will measure its success. What else needs to happen? On funding, Farah emphasises “We need money and we need it quickly”. Women's Aid Federation of England reposted this
We are disappointed by 10 Downing Street's response to the 12 demands we submitted with 60+ organisations following the murderous male violence against girls in Southport. The response detaches the riots from the root causes of the far-right violence that must urgently be tackled. These include the hostile environment and the NRPF condition, the continued impact of austerity measures, lack of safe routes for asylum seekers, and institutional racism in the criminal justice system. We are dismayed at the government’s continued commitment to hostile environment policies, when now more than ever, we need structural reform. We await the UK Home Office's detailed addressal of our concerns and hope to take this conversation forward. Our list of 12 demands 👇 https://lnkd.in/gMy7hRSH

Inappropriate behaviour towards women is no joke. We need to create a media culture where women feel safe to speak up. It is important to challenge so-called ‘jokes’ that trivialise these behaviours so we don't continue normalising toxic attitudes. Read Women's Aid's full response here: https://lnkd.in/ejhu5qyR

We’re thrilled to see the Price of Safety report by Women’s Aid featured in the University of Bath’s blog, discussing the financial hardships survivors of domestic abuse face. A big thank you to the University of Bath for sharing our research and raising awareness on this critical issue. Survivors deserve a social security system that supports their journey to safety and independence. Let’s continue the conversation and work towards breaking down the economic barriers that keep survivors trapped.
Leaving an abusive relationship should not lead to financial instability or homelessness. In the latest University of Bath Institute for Policy Research (IPR) blog, Harriette D. examines the new Women's Aid Federation of England The Price of Safety report, which underscores the urgent need for policy reforms in the social security system. Leaving an abusive relationship is not just about overcoming emotional barriers—it's also about facing daunting financial challenges. Our latest report shows it can cost up to £50,000 to escape and start over. But while the financial burden is heavy, the true cost of freedom is priceless. This week, through our Big Give match funding campaign, your donation will go twice as far in supporting survivors. Every pound helps break down barriers, offering the chance to rebuild lives.
