Reflecting on this week’s Women Automotive Summit Europe… Returning to Germany 🇩🇪 for the second year, I wondered if we could replicate the magic of last year’s post-Covid event. But #WASEurope proved we’re more than an event—we’re a #community, and this was a #reunion for new and old Network members 🌍 🤔 They say a problem shared is a problem halved, but what about when you share a mission? This week I knew our 1000+ attendees had the same values, shared experiences and drive. You could feel the energy in the room multiplying with every new speaker taking to the stage and every new connection made. 🤝☕️ To everyone who made this possible—speakers, partners, attendees—THANK YOU! 🙏 Here’s a few of my takeaways: 1️⃣ To our wonderful WAN team: THANK YOU! To not only work together, but share this week’s experiences with you all, makes it all so much more worthwhile! 2️⃣ Linda Jackson’s ⛰️ metaphor was a continual theme throughout the day, that the Flex team refreshingly echoed; sometimes it’s OK to be honest with yourself and ask: “if you’re not enjoying the climb, what does make you happy?” 3️⃣ The impact a #community and #networking have is truly invaluable. Reading your posts is the drive we need to know diversity does matter. Together we can make a more inclusive, innovative industry that is better for all! 🫶 4️⃣ “You need to be a team player not just by words, but with actions” - Barbara Frenkel, Porsche AG. Thank you for reminding us, that no matter how good the leader, we all need our team. 👫 5️⃣ To Simon McDermott, Gary Ford, Barrie Painter, Alan Johnson and all our male allies: Thank you for accepting our invitation and being part of the conversation. As our Panel and 1000+ attendees shared #allyship and #sponsorship is a key factor in our support system We are #BetterTogether, and change starts with you. Thank you all for your continued support... til the next time... Thank you Simon McDermott for accepting our invitation and being part of this week's Panel at #WASEurope, as well as continuing to drive the conversation forward and engage all 🫶 👏 #BetterTogether #Allyship #WomenAutomotiveNetwork #InspireInclusion #DiversityMatters #WomeninAutomotive https://lnkd.in/dRh9RZtV

On Tuesday, I had the privilege and pleasure of participating in the closing panel at the Woman Automotive Summit in Stuttgart, where we delved into the transformative power of inclusion. Sharing insights, including through an HR function lens, with brilliant minds like Sara Aghaeian from Volvo Cars and Svenja Ebbighausen from HP, we explored how to Inspire Inclusion and how diverse perspectives not only enrich our industry but also ignite creativity. Moderated by the wonderful and insightful Caroline Trudeau, our conversation was a testament to the idea that when we inspire each other, we drive innovation forward. I really wish I could have stayed for the dinner! As 1 of only 6 men in a conference of 480 people in the room it was a healthy reminder what it is like to in the minority (albeit briefly). Fantastic set presenters, brilliant Q&A and one of the warmest conference atmospheres I have ever experienced. Great to meet Stephanie May face to face finally. Together, let’s keep pushing boundaries! #WomenAutomotiveNetwork #DEI #Inclusion #WASEurope @WomenAutomotiveNetwork

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of spending the day with some of my wonderful colleagues from Elli at the 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁 in Ludwigsburg. It was my first time attending the event, and I was truly impressed by the amazing community. The expert-led panels and discussions covered the latest industry trends, from the role of diversity in driving innovation to the impact of emerging technologies on the automotive sector. The event provided great opportunities to connect with industry leaders, gain insights into career growth, and network with peers who are all passionate about fostering an inclusive workplace. Additionally, it made clear that while women in the industry have already come a long way, there is still a long road ahead of us. Right at the end of the event, host Micha Goebig referenced a part of the book "Big Magic" by Elizabeth Gilbert, which particularly stuck with me and that‘s why I wanted to share it with you: ✨✨✨ Dᴇᴀʀᴇꜱᴛ Fᴇᴀʀ, Cʀᴇᴀᴛɪᴠɪᴛʏ ᴀɴᴅ I ᴀʀᴇ ᴀʙᴏᴜᴛ ᴛᴏ ɢᴏ ᴏɴ ᴀ ʀᴏᴀᴅ ᴛʀɪᴘ ᴛᴏɢᴇᴛʜᴇʀ. “Believe in yourself. You have a right to be here just like everyone else.” These powerful words from Linda Jackson, CEO at Peugeot, remind us of the importance of diversity in the automotive industry, where women are often outnumbered. This past Tuesday, Linda opened the Women Automotive Network Summit in Stuttgart, where around 500 women gathered, with another 500 joining us virtually. Me, Johanna Lilja, Jessica Nymark, Priyadharshini Viswanathan and Louise Glos headed to Germany to represent WirelessCar. Johanna contributed to the 2019 Reunion Panel which discussed the key changes the latest 5 years and what still needs to happen. It's a fact that many women returned to domestic responsibilities during COVID-19 and continue to shoulder more housework while working from home. Here are some key takeaways and reflections: 👉 Integrate DEI into Business Planning: Diversity, equity, and inclusion should be central to business strategies, not just a scattered part of communication activities that capitalize on events like International Women's Day and Pride Month. 👉Set Specific Goals: Establish clear objectives for increasing female hires and outline desired representation across different levels of the organization. 👉Practice Inclusivity Daily: Ask yourself: How can I be more inclusive today towards the people I meet? Remember, the brain is a muscle you can train. Thank you, Gary Ford, Co-Founder of Men for Inclusion, for giving this great piece of advice. A special thanks to Micha Goebig for being an exceptional MC and to Stephanie May for keeping the event running smoothly 👏

Yesterday, Sara Gallian hosted an interactive workshop at the Women Automotive Network Summit, focusing on democratising and transforming the automotive software industry through a code-first approach. "As the community grows in scope and diversity, how can open source project leaders bring in diverse participants while promoting open source norms, ethics, and best practices?" – Sara Gallian. The event, aimed at fostering diversity and inclusion within the automotive sector, featured panels and discussions led by experts on the latest industry trends, including how diversity fuels innovation and the impact of emerging technologies. Today, we're excited for more insightful discussions on collaboration at ETAS Connections 2024! #WASEurope #diversity #inclusivity #SDV #automotive
