Tomorrow eve in London via Women In Journalism. 'What's Next After X?' Live panel 31 Jan, 6.30-7.30pm Cision, 5 Churchill Place, Canary Wharf, London, E14 5HU With rumours of X considering going behind a paywall, what would that mean for free news at the point of access, what does that mean for news publishers and broadcasters? What is the next platform for journalists to gather contacts and leads? LinkedIn of course ;-) Hoping this will be recorded for out of towners. https://lnkd.in/exaGf7we #journalism #socialmedia #twitter Cision UK

When was the last time you tweeted? Twitter (now X) used to be the most open app. Now many people are engaging with it less if at all. Since it was taken over the app has changed removing blue ticks and charging for Twitter Blue. Less ability to opt out of topics you find troubling. And yet X was the journalists go to for stories, contacts and sharing stories or sourcing exclusives. What does the change in ownership of X mean for journalists and PRs? Where will we gather for all the above? That's the question to be discussed by our outgoing Deputy Chair Genelle Aldred. With special guests Hardeep Matharu, Eva Akase Simpson, Ellie Mcdonald and Barnaby Barron. This session is being hosted Cision UK offices and you can get your tickets here. After the panel discussion will be the opportunity to network with other journalists and some PRs. This event is open to members and non-members: https://lnkd.in/eC58rZV9

Tax returns are part of every freelance journalist's year. The 31st of January can cause some to panic, especially if you are new to freelancing. There are so many questions around what can you claim for with expenses? When should you start doing your return? Can you pay in installments? Should you get an accountant or do it yourself? There's a lot to think about and we are hosting a 30 minute lunchtime session in January to help you answer some of your most pressing questions before the deadline date. This session will be run by Andrew Subramaniam and Barry Kernon. They’re part of HW Fisher, a top 30 UK chartered accountancy firm. HW Fisher support a wide variety of talent from the creative industries, including authors, journalists, social media influencers, vloggers and more They offer specialist advice to help reduce people’s tax burden and help them meet their financial goals. Women In Journalism reposted this
Around 700 women participate in Women In Journalism’s mentoring scheme - that is an impressive number! ⭐️ This is an organisation that does a great deal to help launch and grow female talent in journalism and I was honoured to attend their Christmas party hosted at ITN Business this evening. It was a pleasure to hear from Women In Journalism’s new Chair Rachel Corp FRSA who will build on the important work of her predecessors Alison Phillips and Eleanor Mills, as she steers the organisation towards further success. I have been watching their work and their research with great interest over the years. We need more women in journalism and particularly senior leadership roles. Their mentoring programme is now open - check it out! #WomenInJournalism Seahorse Freight Association Genelle Aldred Augusta Anthony Kimberley Hackett Jennifer Mawby Isabel Togoh Blossom Martins (ANIPR) #Journalism #Careers #Leadership #Christmas2023 Kate McMillan Walkers Crisps UK Tesco
