We've entered into a new era for the workforce - flexible working from day one. While I've always supported flexible working, I am worried for what it will do to the younger generations. Looking back on my office-based roles at Featherstone Leigh, Hamptons, and Hubble - the grind was real, but there were so many lessons learned from it all and the professional growth was something I couldn't have got from working outside of the office. Especially with my ADHD and dyslexia. From random kitchen chats to after work drinks, to the office Christmas party, such in-person experiences forged lasting memories and were pivotal in my career development How will the younger generations of today gather these valuable experiences if they work outside the office? I believe we all need those unscripted moments and collective energy to sculpt our work ethos and build that resilience we need. This is the challenge for today's employers, to evolve the office beyond its traditional role. Employees need much more than just a desk and WiFi, they need a life enhancing space. I'm thinking offices equipped with communal breakfast areas, social kitchens, fully-equipped gyms, wellness zones, nap pods, and even on-site childcare that’s both accessible and affordable. The future of the office is more exciting that ever! And now we are in this new era of work flexibility, reimagining the office is a necessity.

Boots UK decision to return to the office is a big moment for working parents within the company, especially those with kids in #childcare. With the expectation of being in the office 5 days a week, some parents are facing a potential childcare bill of up to £20k a year, per child. Therefore if companies are requiring a full #RTO, then offering the workplace nursery benefit that can save parents up to 63% on their childcare costs, is not just a perk, but a necessity. So as some of us navigate a return to the office, it's crucial we all champion initiatives that actually support working parents.

Boots UK's CEO has demanded a full return to office by 1st September 2024 The business has experienced 10 consecutive quarters of market share growth working flexibly Yet their 3 days a week hybrid isn't enough 🤔 But why? 💡 According to the CEO: 🚨 "There is no doubt in my mind that the informal conversations, brief catch-ups and ability to meet in groups in person has been far more effective - and better for our unique Boots culture than the enforced formality of remote meetings" 💡 According to me: 🚨 It's a thinly veiled headcount reduction exercise Boots closed 300 stores last year, and apparently has no plans to make redundancies. Its owner, Walgreens, is also reportedly trying to sell Boots again. So, a full RTO might be a strategic move that favours those short term goals. But this move ignores the huge impact that full RTOs have on engagement, happiness, culture and inclusivity. The people that they will lose will be the ones who cannot work without flexible working, and they are most likely to be working parents, people with disabilities and conditions, and neurodivergent individuals. Hybrid gave Boots the best of both worlds. Remote and in-person work are complementary; not opposing. Those informal conversations and groups meetings are hugely beneficial, but they also have a place next to quiet, focused work, which is often better done from home. Calling all employed parents in my network with kids at nursery or soon to be at nursery. Who here is benefiting from the Workplace Nursery Benefit Scheme? Some parents are saving up to £9k a year on their childcare costs! If you're missing out on this cost-free benefit that only your employer can offer, it's time to ask why… Childcare costs are a major hurdle for working parents, and this scheme, offered in-part by kinsail is a gateway to those saving. #childcaresupport #childcarecrisis #workingparents #employeebenefits
