𝐉𝐎𝐇𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐍𝐄’𝐒 𝐏𝐀𝐈𝐍𝐓 𝐁𝐄𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐄𝐒 𝐒𝐏𝐎𝐍𝐒𝐎𝐑 𝐎𝐅 𝐒𝐍𝐎𝐎𝐊𝐄𝐑 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐋𝐃 𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐒 The WST’s far-reaching partnership with PPG is expanding, with the Johnstone’s Paint brand becoming the official sponsor of the world rankings. The Johnstone’s Paint World Rankings is a two-year rolling list determining the official world number one and ranking for all 128 tour snooker players. As part of the agreement, WST will post videos on its social media channels after each event, highlighting key movers and storylines within the rankings. "It's truly exciting to see our partnership evolve into sponsoring the official world snooker rankings," said Megan Esmond, PPG Marketing Director for UK & Ireland, Architectural Coatings. "This not only amplifies the visibility of our flagship brand but also deepens engagement with both our employees and customers." Current world number one, Judd Trump, commented: “There is so much history and prestige connected to our rankings. Every new pro strives to get into the top 64, then the top 16, and eventually to world number one. The various races connected to the rankings create a lot of extra stories during the season, and it’s something that players and fans always have their eye on. It’s fantastic to have Johnstone’s Paint on board as the new sponsor of the world rankings.” It’s a great time to make moves in the rankings, with the ‘Race to the Masters’ well underway as players fight to reach the top 16 and qualify for the event, which will also be sponsored by Johnstone’s Paint. The 2025 Johnstone’s Paint Masters will take place from 12-19 January at Alexandra Palace and Park in London, where the world’s top 16 players will compete for £1 million in prize money.

𝐁𝐑𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐈𝐀𝐍𝐓 𝐅𝐑𝐎𝐌 𝐊𝐘𝐑𝐄𝐍 𝐖𝐈𝐋𝐒𝐎𝐍! Congratulations to Kyren Wilson on winning the BVGroup Northern Ireland Open in Belfast. The world champion was simply stunning, defeating World Number One Judd Trump 9-3 in the final. Wilson picks up £100,000 for the title – his second of the season, following his victory in Xi’an. Many players have struggled to live up to the hype of being world champion, but it’s safe to say that’s not the case for Kyren. Wilson vs. Trump is shaping up to be a rivalry we’ll see played out plenty more times in the future.

𝐑𝐈𝐘𝐀𝐃𝐇 𝐒𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐎𝐍 𝐒𝐍𝐎𝐎𝐊𝐄𝐑 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐌𝐏𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐏 𝐑𝐄𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐒 𝐓𝐎 𝐒𝐀𝐔𝐃𝐈 𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐁𝐈𝐀 🇸🇦 Riyadh Season | موسم الرياض will once again welcome the best snooker players on the planet from December 18th to 20th when the 2024 Riyadh Season Snooker Championship takes place in Boulevard City. The tournament was staged for the first time in March 2024 following a historic agreement between His Excellency Turki Alalshikh, Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority (GEA), and the World Snooker Tour. Famously, the tournament included a unique Gold Ball, which was worth 20 points and could only be potted at the end of a maximum 147, creating the possibility for a player to score a break of 167 which would have been the highest in the history of snooker. The Riyadh Season Snooker Championship invitation event will welcome the top ten players on snooker’s official ranking list at the end of the 2024 UK Championship on December 1st. There are still three counting events to go, so the chasing pack still have time to climb into the top ten of the Race to Riyadh and earn a place in this exciting tournament. In March, snooker’s all-time greatest player Ronnie O’Sullivan lifted the trophy after beating John Higgins and Judd Trump to reach the final before a 5-2 victory over Luca Brecel. “It has been a fantastic tournament at a brilliant venue and the crowd have been amazing,” said O’Sullivan at the end of the final. “All the players have enjoyed the culture and hospitality. These are the tournaments I really want to play in, with a great atmosphere. Riyadh Season has a lot of the best sport – everyone needs to get to Saudi!” His Excellency Turki Alalshikh said: “We are looking forward to hosting the next Riyadh Season Snooker Championship, after the great success of our first event earlier this year. The interest in snooker is only getting bigger in Saudi Arabia. The fans love to have the best players around the world here and we are excited to have them return in December.” WST Chairman Steve Dawson added: “We are thrilled to continue our partnership with HE Turki Alalshikh and to stage this event as part of the fabulous Riyadh Season for the second time in 2024. This year we have made huge strides forward in our development in Saudi Arabia and it is exciting to see snooker growing so fast in this region and attracting a new audience. There is huge motivation for the players over the next few weeks to climb into the top ten and guarantee a place in the field at what will be a fantastic three days of the highest quality action. We would love to see one of them pot the Gold Ball and make history!” Details of the venue and how fans can buy tickets or watch the event on television or online will be announced soon

Prize money for the 2025 Players Championship will jump to £500,000, an increase of 30% compared to the 2024 figure of £385,000.   The 2025 Players Championship will run from March 17-23 at the Telford International Centre. It’s the second of three events in the 2025 Players Series, with only the top 16 players on the one-year ranking list to earn a place in Telford. The winner’s prize will leap from £125,000 to £150,000.   The increase follows this week’s announcement that the World Grand Prix will be staged in Hong Kong, with prize money jumping from £380,000 to £700,000. The top 32 on the one-year list will be heading to the spectacular Kai Tak Sports Park in Hong Kong.   The prize money for the 2025 Tour Championship will remain at £500,000, with only the top 12 on the one-year list qualifying for the third and final event in the series, to be staged at Manchester Central from March 31 to April 6.   The total prize money across the three Players Series events will be £1.7 million, compared to £1.265 million in 2024.   WST Chief Executive Officer Simon Brownell said: “This is an exciting time for our tour as we expand across the globe with new and exciting events. We are delighted to increase prize money significantly for the World Grand Prix and the Players Championship, enhancing the prestige of these events. The Players Series rewards those in form and there is massive incentive for all players to earn a lucrative place firstly in the World Grand Prix and then the next two in the series.   “We continue to work on opportunities for the current season with the ambition to hit £19 million in total prize money which would be comfortably our highest ever, and an increase of 35% compared to last season.    “The opportunities available to players now have never been better, and we have ambitious plans for further growth in years to come.”

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐋𝐃 𝐒𝐍𝐎𝐎𝐊𝐄𝐑 𝐓𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐈𝐒 𝐑𝐄𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐎 𝐇𝐎𝐍𝐆 𝐊𝐎𝐍𝐆 Hong Kong will hold its first ranking event in 35 years, when it welcomes the top players on the planet for the World Grand Prix from March 4th to 9th in 2025. The event is set to take place at the brand-new Kai Tak Sports Park, which is a state-of-the-art facility set to open next year. When completed, the park will be the largest integrated sports and entertainment landmark in Hong Kong. The Grand Hall, Kai Tak Arena for the World Grand Prix will have a capacity of over 4,000, with the ambition to play host to snooker’s biggest ever live audience for a ranking tournament. The World Grand Prix is the opening event in the prestigious Players Series, where only the most successful 32 performers of the season will earn a place. Prize money for the tournament will be boosted by a massive 84% compared to last year’s total fund, rising from £380,000 to £700,000. The top prize jumps from £100,000 to £180,000. In 2022, the Hong Kong Masters saw the world’s best players congregate for a prestigious invitational event. Ronnie O’Sullivan defeated Marco Fu 6-4 in the final, which was played in front of a world record crowd of over 9,000 in the Hong Kong Coliseum. The only previous ranking event in the city was way back in 1989, when Mike Hallett defeated Dene O’Kane 9-8 in the final of the Hong Kong Open. WST CEO Simon Brownell said: “We are hugely excited to be taking such a massive event to Hong Kong. This is a move which is in line with our strategy to have a greater distribution of snooker’s biggest tournaments around the world and further globalise the sport. Hong Kong is a territory and market of particular significance for us, and we are delighted to be utilising this new world class venue."

𝐒𝐍𝐎𝐎𝐊𝐄𝐑 🤝 𝐓𝐄𝐍𝐍𝐈𝐒 Last week, Wuhan in China became one of the focal points of the sporting world as it hosted both the Wuhan Open in snooker and a WTA tennis tournament. The two worlds collided when Chinese snooker legend Ding Junhui performed the coin toss ahead of the all-Chinese semi-final between Zheng Qinwen and Wang Xinyu at the tennis. As you can hear in the video below, the crowd erupted in a huge roar when Ding was introduced, illustrating his immense appeal and fame in his homeland. World number one Judd Trump also participated in a coin toss earlier in the tournament before taking in some tennis. Meanwhile, at the snooker, Germany’s three-time doubles champion Laura Siegemund took a break from her tennis duties to check out some of the action on the baize. Throughout the week, local fans had plenty to cheer about too. In the snooker, it was an all-Chinese final, with Xiao Guodong defeating Si Juhui 10-7 to win his maiden ranking title after 17 years as a professional. Meanwhile, in the tennis, Zheng became the first Chinese player to reach a WTA 1000 final on home soil and pushed top seed Aryna Sabalenka to the limit, before narrowly losing 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.

𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝐏𝐀𝐘𝐒 𝐎𝐅𝐅 Xiao Guodong has been an excellent player ever since turning pro in 2007, but despite coming close on more than one occasion, he has never been able to win a ranking event title… until now, that is. The 35-year-old Chinese cueist finally got his hands on a trophy as he beat compatriot Si Jiahui 10-7 in the Wuhan Open final on Saturday. It capped a brilliant week for Xiao in Wuhan, where he beat the likes of current world champion Kyren Wilson, Shaun Murphy, and Barry Hawkins on his way to ending his 17-year drought for a ranking title. His match against the brilliant 22-year-old Si was also only the third time that two players from mainland China competed against each other in a ranking event final. Well played Xiao and Si 👏
