About us
Worldwide Cancer Research is the UK charity starting new cures worldwide to end cancer. By 2030 cancer is predicted to become the leading cause of death worldwide. We urgently need to find new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer - but we can't do it alone. With your help, we vow to keep funding more lifesaving research projects into any type of cancer, anywhere in the world. We won’t stop until cancer does. Since Worldwide Cancer Research was founded in 1979 cancer survival rates in the UK have doubled. But with 1 in 2 people in the UK now predicted to be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, there's still so much more to do. But we believe that we can do it, together. We were delighted to win the Best Legacy Campaign at the Chartered Institute of Fundraising Scotland Scottish Fundraising Awards last night. 'Be the spark' raised an incredible amount of awareness of the importance of gifts in Wills when it comes to starting new cures for cancer, and we are over the moon for it to have been recognised in this way. Our second Award winner of the evening goes to Worldwide Cancer Research’s ‘Be the spark’ campaign for Best Legacy Campaign. This campaign demonstrated how being bold and thinking outside the box can reap rewards within a legacy fundraising campaign. The campaign leveraged storytelling as a means of engaging supporters and leveraging the legacy ask but was innovative in its use of a celebrity ambassador. This Remember a Charity Week, we are honoured to share Basil's story. Basil, a remarkable 102-year-old who lives independently, is an avid tennis player and cancer survivor. Despite being diagnosed with melanoma in 2013, Basil received the news of being cancer-free in 2020. Since then, he has been devoted to starting new cancer cures all over the world. Basil's generosity extends to leaving a gift in his Will for Worldwide Cancer Research. He hopes that his legacy will play a part in eradicating cancer forever, for everyone.
