In the words of Kate Mooney, biophilic design faces the risk of losing its distinctive appeal. Similar to the terms ‘sustainability’ and ‘wellness’ that preceded it, she warns that biophilic design has been co-opted, diluted, and overused to the point of losing its essence. However, at its core, biophilic design remains a vital and intricate philosophy, one that extends far beyond simply adding a green wall in the lobby or placing a potted fern in every guest suite. Explore what OCCA Founder and Principal Kate identifies as the essential elements of a 'genuine biophilic experience', and which hotels are doing it best, here: https://brnw.ch/21wRGPD

A decade since its opening, the PURO Hotels Poznań property has been revitalised by Holloway Li, who has infused its ground floor with contemporary elegance. Inspired by Poznań’s craft heritage, the redesign seamlessly blends natural materials, soft lighting, and bespoke furnishings to create a warm, intimate atmosphere. From a striking sculpted limestone reception desk with burnt red glazed tiles to circular brass cutouts inspired by Poznań’s industrial past, and handmade glass windows referencing Art Nouveau townhouses, throughout, this hotel design celebrates Polish craftsmanship alongside modern and heritage design. Rubra, a restaurant by Ana Paula de Alba and Ignacio Urquiza for chef Daniela Soto-Innes, is nestled in Punta Mita on Mexico's Pacific coast. Surrounded by lush greenery, it features a main terrace with stunning views of the Sierra Madre Occidental and an open kitchen. The design harmonises with nature, using flowerbeds as benches and incorporating a large roof that filters natural light. Inspired by Mexican architecture, Rubra's concrete structure has rounded corners and includes indoor landscaping by Thalia Davidoff. Guests can enjoy a unique culinary experience in a tranquil atmosphere, where nature, privacy, and light come together. Discover more of the design, with Hotel Designs: https://lnkd.in/eHn2vcYR
