What a busy week it has been for the Refuge4Pets team! This week we have fostered 14 new animals from across Devon and Cornwall, reunited two animals with their families, settled a further four cats into foster homes and took care of 2 vet runs. We currently have 50 animals in our care. 🐶 😺 🐍 🐰 The week isn't over yet as on Sunday the team will be out raising awareness and fundraising. We're a small team doing a big job, but we couldn't do it without the help of our wonderful volunteer animal foster carers and supporters. 🙏 This is why we do what we do 👉 https://lnkd.in/eJRJ7BMj

Our CEO, Dr Mary Wakeham, was a speaker at yesterday's event organised by Naturewatch Foundation and the All-Party Parliamentary Dog Advisory Welfare Group 'Animals in Domestic Abuse'. To learn more about how animals are used as a strategy of coercive control, please join our free webinar on the 6th December co-delivered with our The Links Group (CIO) partners. For more information and to book a place: https://lnkd.in/e2jbX3rm #BreakingtheLink
Thank you so much to all the MPs who joined us yesterday at our joint 'Animals in Domestic Abuse' event with the All-Party Parliamentary Dog Advisory Welfare Group (APDAWG). It was really encouraging to see cross-party concern regarding the link between animal abuse and domestic abuse. What are we asking MPs to support? 🐶 Mandatory training for police officers and prosecutors on the importance of considering pets in situations of coercive control and domestic abuse. 🐱 The Renters’ Rights Bill – it’s crucial to make it easier for victims of domestic abuse to flee with their pets. 🐴 More awareness of the link between human and animal abuse. #BreakingTheLink, together, will make communities safer for everyone.

Our CEO Dr Mary Wakeham will be speaking at this incredibly important event in Parliament tomorrow to raise awareness of the link between domestic abuse and animal abuse. It's an opportunity to reach decision-makers to explain why when animals are protected, people are too. We know more needs to be done to safeguard both people and animals and Mary is at the forefront of making this happen 🙌 #BreakingTheLink Mary Wakeham Naturewatch Foundation
Next Tuesday we go again. October 22nd is the #APDAWG event in the UK Parliament ‘Animal abuse within domestic abuse’ and an opportunity to reach decision makers to explain why when animals are protected, people are too. The speaker line up is very impressive - Sam Beckinsale Dave Martin Rebecca Stephens Mary Wakeham and Dr. Samantha Pickles - the campaign from Naturewatch Foundation is about #BreakingTheLink together - working collaboratively to keep both animals and people safe. All spaces are currently filled for the event but please follow the hashtags and support both human and animal survivors of domestic abuse. Thank you to Dr Marc Abraham OBE and Rosie Duffield MP for this event. Coercive control. Ask about animals.

I love everything about this animation that Mark has shared. This was just like my old dad. When his cat died he didn’t want another because he thought it would outlive him. Despite mine and my sister’s reassurances that we’d look after his cat if he got another, he wouldn’t do it - although we knew it would be so great for him. He then had a number of lonely years before he finally passed on. His calm and peaceful home would have been perfect for fostering a cat (or two!) - especially one that might have lived in a turbulent and abusive situation. It would have given him greater purpose and probably a bit more human contact too. I wish this had been an option/something I’d been aware of back then.
Our new animation is finished and now ready to share! Thank you PUSHED®for turning the real experiences of our animal foster carers into this powerful animation which we hope will encourage more people to foster with us. Big thanks to Richer Sounds Foundation for believing in our work and funding this animation. #animation #funding #animalwelfare #petfostering #volunteering

Thank you @vanessaholburnwriter for this incredibly powerful article about our work. Please contact us if you can help, or if we can help you info@refuge4pets.org.uk
Please have a read of one of my recent pieces. There's a lack of safe accommodation for those with pets fleeing domestic abuse and abusers use (and abuse) animals that their victim/survivors love and care for as part of their campaign of violence and coercive control. Refuge4Pets is one charity working within this space, it needs your support. https://lnkd.in/eZ5vNG-9
