Enabling people under the age of 65 to live well after a working-age dementia diagnosis.
About us
Younger People with Dementia was set up in 2012 to assist in filling a gap in provision for those with young onset dementia (those diagnosed under the age of 65) and their family and carers. Our aim is to provide meaningful respite for our service users and their families over the working week. We do this by providing risk-positive activity based workshops that are age-appropriate to the people using the charity's services. Examples of these include choir, cooking, equine therapy, gardening katakanuing, and many more. Our organisation currently provides these workshops in Berkshire and Surrey Heath, with the aim of expanding across vaster areas.

As a small charity with four small teams, we know the importance of providing team building days and aim to deliver these every six weeks when we have a break to plan for our next set of activity based workshops. This month our team day involved a pickleball tournament, a networking lunch, presentations on sustainability, marketing and service delivery and finished off with team building activities and games. We really value bringing all of our small teams together as one for training, bonding and a sharing of ideas, which is a rare and treasured occasion. The winner of our pickleball tournament was Joe, who is proudly holding his jar of pickles and mug in the picture below. Niamh was our winner of pass the parcel, who won chocolates and a whoopee cushion. We are always working on building a kind, open and positive culture at YPWD 🤝

Meet our lovely Sharon and Richard 💚 Sharon and her husband Richard have been receiving support from our charity since 2022 when Sharon was diagnosed with young onset dementia in her early 60’s. They have been attending our dementia choir in Berkshire together every week since being referred to our services and Richard benefits from the carer support network. Here they share how YPWD has made a difference to their lives. If your business would be interested in choosing us as your charity of choice for 2025, or you would like to fundraise in aid of our support services, please contact marketing@ypwd.info and we will do our best to ensure we both get the best out of the partnership 🤝 #charity #dementia #support Filmed by Leon Silavant 🎥
