Home visits may be more convinient for some patients, especially the elderly, those with disabilities, mobility problems and bed bound patients. 🚨 The Cost of Missed NHS Appointments 🚨 Recently, I came across a stark reminder of the financial impact of missed NHS appointments. It's crucial that we all understand the true cost of healthcare to the taxpayer. While the NHS is a lifeline for many, it's not a free service – we all contribute towards its funding through taxes. Unfortunately, missed appointments are more than just a inconvenience – they come at a significant cost. Approximately £216 million was wasted due to missed GP appointments alone. To put this into perspective, that could cover the salaries of 2,325 full-time GPs. And that's not even considering missed appointments for midwives, scans/x-rays, physiotherapy, home visits, unnecessary A&E visits etc. It's important to recognise that every missed appointment not only wastes valuable resources but also impacts those who desperately need access to healthcare. Long waiting lists are exacerbated, and individuals are left without the care they require due to others not attending their appointments. While the NHS faces numerous challenges, it's crucial that we address this issue of missed appointments, as I believe this doesn't get enough attention. There needs to be more responsibility and accountability when it comes to healthcare, by raising awareness of the financial implications and encouraging individuals to honour their appointments, we can ensure that NHS resources are used effectively and efficiently.
