We would like to thank Mary D. for her positive feedback after interning with Edmond de Rothschild last summer. "Thanks to the Young Women into Finance (YWIF) program, I had the opportunity to intern for 3 months over the summer within the Infrastructure Asset Management team at Edmond de Rothschild. During my internship, I worked on multiple deals across the infrastructure sector, including energy and telecommunications, and participated in financial modelling exercises that deepened my understanding of valuation methods such as DCF. This experience built on the skills I acquired through the YWIF financial modelling course earlier in the year. The internship not only enhanced my skills but also provided me with an understanding of the diverse scope that infrastructure asset management firms cover. I am grateful to the team for creating a supportive environment where I could ask questions and gain an understanding of various processes. Many thanks to Catherine Goodhind and Dan McCarthy at YWIF for making this opportunity possible and for their ongoing support extended to us YWIF members."

We would like to thank Gravis, in particular, Bianca McMillan (née Marwaha), for arranging this amazing internship opportunity for one of our YWIF candidates, Kristen Woods. "Being a part of the Young Women Into Finance (YWIF) programme allowed me to partake in a six week internship experience with Gravis, an alternative asset management company, managing funds investing primarily in UK infrastructure. This was an amazing opportunity that I was able to secure through the programme with the support of my mentor. During the internship, I completed Gravis’ internal financial modelling course, including introduction to project finance and valuation using a discounted cash flow. This built upon the financial modelling course I completed earlier this year, which was also provided by YWIF’s partnership with a leading financial modelling training organisation. In my last week, I presented research to the investment team covering an emerging asset class, which was a valuable experience that has helped me improve both my confidence and presentation skills. I also visited Birmingham Bio Power Ltd (BBPL), a 10.3MW waste wood gasification plant and had the opportunity to ask questions about the inner workings of this plant, and the benefit it provides to its local community as a source of sustainable power generation and its contribution to the local air quality improvement initiatives. I would like to extend my thanks to the Young Women into Finance (YWIF) programme, Catherine Goodhind and Dan McCarthy for all their hard work and support for the young women on the programme and allowing us to access these great internships. I am very grateful that I have been able to do so much at an early stage in my career and I am looking forward to continuing the programme."

We are glad to get this positive feedback from Rancikha Ravindran on her summer internship. "I am happy to say that my summer ended extremely well with an unbelievable opportunity provided by Young Women in Finance, an internship opportunity at First Sentier/Igneo Infrastructures. This opportunity opened my eyes into a real working 9-5 life with amazing people in the firm who were extremely generous and kind providing me with new knowledge in the infrastructure world. Working with them gave me more opportunities to work on essentials that I would need in the future like presenting in front of people, working on excel and many more tasks. I would like to thank Dan McCarthy and Catherine Goodhind at Young Women into Finance for working extremely hard to provide us girls with these amazing internship opportunities as it is a really hard thing to do in this competitive environment."

A huge thank you to Edmond de Rothschild, especially Jean-Francis Dusch, for providing two of our Young Women into Finance candidates with internships in summer 2024. On the 2024 Edmond de Rothschild summer internship by Yousra Seddiki: "Over the summer, through the Young Women into Finance program, I had the opportunity to intern at Edmond de Rothschild, working with the Infrastructure Debt team in their London office. I had the opportunity to work on multiple deals across various energy sectors, which introduced me to the diverse aspects of finance. This experience allowed me to further develop my financial modeling skills, building on the foundation from the financial modeling course provided by YWIF in March - an invaluable resource. Seeing the real-world application of classroom theory has been incredibly motivating and reinforced my passion for finance. The team was extremely supportive, always willing to answer my questions and provide guidance whenever needed. I am incredibly grateful for their support and for the opportunity to work on the deals I was involved in. I would like to extend my gratitude to Dan McCarthy and Catherine Goodhind, without whom this opportunity wouldn't have been possible. Their support and guidance have been invaluable in helping me pursue this opening, and I am truly thankful for their encouragement."

Three of our Year 13 candidates attended the Women in Mining event on the 25th of September hosted by Societe Generale. The event included an immersive panel discussion on energy transition in the UK. The highlights for the candidates included talks on renewable projects that have been developed so far, financing these projects, and the strategies that banks and the industry leaders have adopted to support the move to a Net Zero economy. Congratulations to our candidates!

Some more positive feedback from another one of our interns, Kristy Ama who did her internship at Centrus : "I am very grateful for the opportunity to work as an Analytics Intern at Centrus this summer. Utilising training from the Corporate Finance Institute, I developed advanced financial models and a detailed memo featuring Compound Annual Growth Rate calculations. I also improved KPI tracking processes and executed accurate date calculations in Excel, integrating them into Titan for client projects. A sincere thank you to Catherine Goodhind and Dan McCarthy at YWIF for making this opportunity possible. I also appreciate the Centrus team’s exceptional support and guidance throughout my internship. This experience has deepened my understanding of financial operations and has equipped me with the skills and insights needed for a successful career in finance." We have received more positive reviews, this time by Maria Stojanovska who interned for DC Advisory this summer: "Through the Young Women Into Finance (YWIF) programme, I was given the opportunity to work as an investment banking summer intern at DC Advisory (DC) for 10 weeks in their London office.   I worked on two debt refinancing projects, a smaller and a larger project of billions of debt involving European, US institutional investors and banks. During these projects, I engaged with clients via call and email, created informative PowerPoint slides for lender presentations, updated feedback trackers and collected financial documentation. I am excited to announce that both of my projects successfully signed and closed, including one which raised EUR 3.1bn of debt for a European energy service provider.   All throughout my journey at DC, I was supported through their buddy scheme: I was assigned a buddy, with whom I was to work on projects with, who supported me every step of the way. As well as this, my deal teams were just as supportive, always willing to answer questions and explain concepts. In fact, there was not a single person I felt I could not go to for support.   I feel incredibly lucky to have so many people to be thankful for, and so, I would like to end this by thanking Catherine Goodhind and Dan McCarthy for always going the extra mile for the YWIF programme, creating and seeking experience, internships, networking events for girls interested in financial services. Another thank you to DC Advisory for extending these opportunities!

We have received some wonderful feedback from one of our summer interns Rhea Roy Choudhury who had her internship with DC Advisory: "This summer, I had the privilege of doing a 10-week summer internship at the infrastructure sector of DC Advisory. I was given the opportunity to see and work on the process of two debt refinancing projects, which gave me an overview of the whole process. I was also given an opportunity to visit Bloomberg, and learn about how the terminals worked, which I then put into practice by pulling data for my projects. As well as this, I had the opportunity to improve my financial modelling skills at a course provided by DC Advisory. I am very thankful to my deal teams for supporting me throughout this internship and taking the time to explain the processes to me. The environment has been incredibly friendly, making my time at DC Advisory very enjoyable. I would like to give a huge thanks to Catherine Goodhind and Dan McCarthy at YWIF for giving me this fantastic insight into banking. I have left this internship with a far better understanding of the industry and more prepared to take on a job in banking in the future." A big thank you to DC Advisory for extending this opportunity!

Here's why Grace Boulton, one of the girls currently participating in our scholarship programme, nominated her mentor Manuel Sieth of clearvise AG as YWIF's Mentor of the Month: "We consistently meet every month and he provides me with insights into the financial world alongside lots of invaluable career advice. Recently, I have been applying for degree apprenticeships and have asked to do some interviews; Manuel has carried out mock interviews with me and shared some tips and tricks for these types of jobs. Not only this, he has been helping me shortlist university options and often asks around to make sure I am provided with the best possible answer. I have a lot of gratitude for Manuel and all the help he has given me over the last year." #youngwomenintofinance #YWIF #finance #mentorship #financialservices #scholarship #womeninfinance
