A Leeds based charity committed to helping children and families who are living in poverty crisis. We do this by providing a bed bundle which includes a bed, mattress, duvet, pillow, bedding, pyjamas and hygiene pack. We know that education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty. A child arriving at school tired and hungry is less likely to engage and less likely to succeed. We want to level the playing field and provide all children with an equal opportunity to learn. We receive referrals from over 100 partner schools, and provide ongoing support including signposting and advocacy. We also provide food to the neediest families and small home improvements. Our mission is to bring lasting and positive change to those children growing up in the grips of poverty crisis through bed bundles and food deliveries, tailored support packages, and raising awareness.

Adjusting my school holiday to-do-list to ‘mum mode’ continues to humble me. In a usual school holiday pre-baby, I used to be able to MOVE mountains. Mountains of school work, housework AND Zarach work. Now I just LOOK at mountains. Mountains of toys, washing, dirty pots etc. At the start of August I decided that whilst nap time didn’t allow me to be off putting up displays or delivering beds, I would use every nap time in August to write a letter to a business that sells beds/bedding, asking for a conversation about what we do and how they could partner with us to help end child bed poverty. I’ve spent time researching each company’s corporate social responsibility pledges and activity, lurking on the Linked In pages of CEOs and down rabbit holes of board meeting minutes 🤦🏽♀️. The few companies in the bed industry that have already offered support have been SO generous it’s overwhelming. If even just one of these 31 letters leads to one more corporate partner, it will have been worth it. We’re a few beds away from hitting 10,000 in our 6 year total and we’re aiming for another 5000+ beds this next academic year but to do so we need a miracle🙏🏼or a really generous corporate partner 😬. We have the infrastructure to do more but don’t yet have funding for the beds. Here’s to 5000 more children sleeping in a bed of their own not to mention the parents, siblings, teachers and school staff that this will bring joy to. After nap time, Viola and I post the letter on route to a park. She now sees an envelope and says, ‘park time’ 😆. I’ve included photos of a letter and I’ve already spotted a mistake. The Prep School Charity Club has raised an impressive £2,457 for Zarach. Through a variety of events including the Harvest Festival, Bingo event, and Summer Celebrations Day, our dedicated pupils have exceeded their goal. Initially aiming to donate 10 "bed bundles," which include a mattress, pillow, duvet, pyjamas, sheets, toothpaste, and other sanitary and bathroom products, they have surpassed all expectations. Zarach, chosen by our pupils as their charity of the year, will greatly benefit from this incredible effort. Thank you to everyone who supported these events!

In September 2022 our team in Yorkshire pledged to support Leeds based bed charity Zarach and their ‘Every Head A Bed’ initiative 🛏 We’ve been donating funds with every new show home bedroom opened in Yorkshire and our latest donation of £2,550, equating to 17 bed bundles for families in need, was donated after the launch of The Glade at Woodland Vale in Tingley near Wakefield 📍 This donation means our partnership with Zarach has now generated nearly £16,000 of funding, which in real terms is over 80 bed bundles. Steve Jackson, sales director for Redrow Yorkshire, said: “We continue to support and spread the word about this wonderful charity amongst our colleagues and residents. “The team at Zarach work hard to provide a much-needed service to children and families across Yorkshire. Back in the early 90's, immediately after leaving Uni and heading to London to find work, I slept on a rickety little camp bed placed within a walk-in cupboard off my brother's kitchenette. It was only down to the warm welcome and ever kind hospitality of my brother and his partner (whose tiny one-bed flat it was) that I still viewed my little cupboard as a place of sanctuary for the three months I crashed there. Put it this way, it was far more comfortable than their sofa, where their cat kept clawing me all night. But I do remember waking up each day feeling quite exhausted. I'm so glad this charity and schools are working together to help end bed poverty and gift young people a peaceful night's sleep.
