This week's big story in the world of #assessment: A new review from OCR recommends rebalancing assessment away from sole reliance on exams at 16, urging a more holistic approach to education from ages 11 to 16. This thorough report draws on a range of assessment research, including work by Dr Simon Child from The Assessment Network.
“A more relevant and enriched curriculum would give more space for deeper learning, better preparing our children for an incredibly complex world.” – Jill Duffy, Chief Executive, OCR A major report published today by our exam board OCR warns that the current volume and intensity of exams at GCSE is too high, and an overloaded curriculum is narrowing students’ education. ‘Striking the balance: A review of 11-16 curriculum and assessment in England’, chaired by former Education Secretary Charles Clarke, makes the case for curriculum and exams reform.
