Japan heads to the polls this week knowing that whoever wins will soon have to turn their attention to the hotly anticipated seventh Strategic Energy Plan (SEP). “Japan's import dependence will continue to raise worry on energy security—particularly post Ukraine invasion—but should also be seen as an opportunity for Japan to transition away from imported fuels and explore more domestic renewables,” said Putra Adhiguna, managing director at Energy Shift Institute. #energy #renewables #Japan https://lnkd.in/dPicYR7b

Positivity around CCS can be hard to find, with the noise around cost and impracticality drowning out the good news and real progress being made. The oft-fragmented sector must find a way to speak with one voice and debunk the doublethink of the naysayers, writes Paul Hickin #energy #carbon #CCS #COP28 #COP29 https://lnkd.in/eaYbScQq

Northern Lights JV, the world’s first commercial CO₂ transport and permanent storage project, is on track to start injections in 2025, following the completion of its receiving and storage facilities. “This major milestone signals the readiness of the infrastructure to store CO₂, and we look forward to receiving the first volumes from hard-to-abate emitters in 2025. This will bring a strong contribution to the decarbonisation of European industry”, said Arnaud Le Foll, senior vice-president new business, carbon neutrality, at TotalEnergies, which is developing the project alongside Shell and Equinor. #energy #CCS #carboncapture https://lnkd.in/eMQHG3ES

Denmark's Project Greensand has been verified as safe by risk management firm DNV, paving the way for it to become the EU’s first operating CO₂ storage facility. INEOS, which is leading the project with Harbour Energy, has applied to the Danish government for approval to advance it. “We now have documentation that we have a well-functioning storage for CO₂ in the North Sea subsoil, where large amounts of CO₂ that would otherwise have been emitted into the atmosphere can be safely and permanently stored,” said Mads Gade, country manager at INEOS Denmark and Commercial Director at INEOS Energy. #energy #carboncapture #CCS https://lnkd.in/eMzeTJAg
