In the meeting with Vice Minister Phung Duc Tien, discussions centered around adaptation finance and its critical role in enhancing Vietnam's agricultural sector to withstand climate change. A key highlight was Phuong Linh Do, former CEO of Viettinbank Securities and current owner of a seaweed production development, who donated one million high-quality seaweed seedlings to aid in the recovery and sustainability of aquaculture. 💡 The discussions brought by ESGs & Climate Consulting and the Vietnam Rural Industries Research and Development Institute, primarily focused on enhancing rural resilience in Vietnam by improving access to blended and green finance, specifically aiming to establish connections between international experts and local stakeholders, including government entities, to promote the development of innovative and sustainable agricultural programs. RESILIENT VIETNAM In the wake of Typhoon #Yagi’s passage, Vân Đồn in Quảng Ninh bore the marks of nature's force, but it also became the setting for an event filled with hope and purpose. On September 27, 2024, the coastal town witnessed remarkable donations aimed at revitalizing Vietnam’s agricultural resilience. Our meeting with Vice Minister Phùng Đức Tiến (MARD) was a highlight, marking a moment of genuine collaboration and shared insights. The discussion focused on adaptation finance and the critical role it plays in bolstering Vietnam's agricultural sector amid the mounting pressure of climate change. We explored the opportunities for stronger financial frameworks to support local initiatives, ensuring that rural communities have the tools they need to thrive in a changing climate Mr. Phuong Linh Do, the youngest and former CEO of Viettinbank Securities, right now the owner of an incredible Seaweed production development after 10 years research and development @DBLP - Deliver Beyond Light and Photosynthesis, made a significant contribution by donating 1 million high-quality seaweed seedlings to representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. This gift, given to support the recovery of aquaculture, was not just about rebuilding but preparing the region for a more sustainable future. I, too, had the privilege of being invited to participate in this donation alongside Nguyen Bao Thoa, the CEO of VIRI, a prominent NGO dedicated to agricultural development in Vietnam. Together, we shared in the mission of strengthening rural resilience through improved access to blended and green finance. Thoa and I, with a common vision for Vietnam’s rural zones, worked to facilitate dialogues on how international expertise could be connected with local actors and government bodies, fostering innovative and sustainable agricultural programs. Phương’s vision, combined with the efforts of Vietnam Rural Industries Research and Development Institute, ESGs & Climate Consulting and the collaboration of experts and local authorities, underscored the collective drive to accelerate sustainable development. Yesterday, on September 24th, our ESGs & Climate Consulting teams from both the North and South participated in key initiatives that take important steps toward Net-Zero goals. ☘ In Hanoi, our CVO Betty Pallard and GM Phuong (Phoebe) Nguyen led the team at the workshop 'Maximizing the Value of Forest Resources Connected to Net-Zero Goals and Sustainable Development,' organized by VnEconomy / Vietnam Economic Times and the Center for Communication on Natural Resources and Environment (CNREC). The discussions shed light on sustainable development within the forestry sector, as well as the role of carbon credits, alongside a report detailing Vietnam’s policies for forest management and development. 👉 At the same time in HCMC, our Account Manager Giang Bui and Partnerships Associate Quan Tran Dinh attended the Green Business Forum, themed "Sustainable Logistics Solutions for Industrial Transformation: From Factories to Industrial Parks and Ports", organized by the ITPC, Singapore Chamber of Commerce Vietnam, and leading businesses. The forum highlighted the real challenges faced by businesses in Vietnam, especially SMEs, when starting their green transition. While solutions exist, the urgency to speed up adoption and accelerate decarbonization in Vietnam remains pressing. This is exactly what ESGs & Climate Consulting is focused on helping to achieve. The collective efforts of government, businesses, and stakeholders are shaping a sustainable Vietnam. HUE CITY SPENDS 40 TIMES MORE THAN ANY CITY IN VIETNAM ON SUSTAINABILITY, HERITAGE PRESERVATION THAN ANY OTHER CITY IN VIETNAM — We target to become a NetZero City before 2030… for sure! 🌏🇻🇳 — The city of Hue’s vision is to become one of the major centres of Southeast Asia in culture, tourism and healthcare, one of the country’s major centres in science and technology, and high-quality multidisciplinary education by 2030 and then by 2045; the city of Hue targets to become a world-famous festive city. These aspirations are in line with the comprehensive plans of the Thua Thien province, looking at integrating sustainable development goals into the socio-economic vision. The city plans to realise that vision by upgrading and developing the city of Hue into a 1st-tier city operating directly under the central government like Hồ Chí Minh City (HCMC) and Hanoi, to develop tourism as a key economic sector, information and communication technology as ground-breaking sectors and industry and high-tech agriculture as founding sectors. For the city authority, the city of Hue’s sustainable development can only be realised if it anchors its development on the preservation and promotion of its heritage and its cultural identity, enhancing its distinctive characteristics in culture, heritage, ecology and landscape, being innovative and environment-friendly. — However, unlike other Vietnamese metropolises, Huế has the opportunity and potential to trigger growth that focuses on sustainability and nature-based solutions. 📷 [ESG News] It's time to rethink sustainability Sony recently released a sustainability report on the media and entertainment industry in Europe. While it sheds light on the sustainable landscape and practices across the industry, one interesting finding stands out: More than 50% of respondents didn’t agree that customers, end users, or viewers were the driving force behind media organizations making changes: it's their employees. We often focus heavily on the responsibility firms have to address environmental challenges from their operations. But in reality, a systematic change requires dual transformation: businesses’ green transitions and a shift in people's behaviors. 🌱 🎬🎙 In the entertainment industry, a significant source of emissions stems from individual activities during filming, recording, photographing, etc. How individuals travel to locations, their purchasing behaviors, and their energy and water consumption on-site are all closely tied to personal habits. Behind every corporation are human beings, whether they are employees or leaders.
