Managing Director Zach Herbers met with leadership and members of the Dong Nai Livestock Association on August 13 to discuss opportunities between the Canadian and Vietnamese agriculture and livestock industries. Topics covered included: ✔ Best practices for Vietnamese agri-food companies to license and distribute their products in Canada, ✔ Best practices for Vietnamese agri-food companies to invest in the Canadian agri-foods industry, ✔ Growing demand for Canadian agri-food products, from raw materials to equipment, in Vietnam. Dong Nai, a province located on Ho Chi Minh City's eastern border, is considered to be one of the livestock capitals of Vietnam, home to approximately 2.3 million pigs and 23 million chickens in Q1 2024. Significant opportunities exist for companies in the agri-food industry to develop their business in Vietnam. On August 8, Managing Director of The Herbers Agency, Zach Herbers, delivered a presentation at an event organized by the Investment & Trade Promotion Center of Ho Chi Minh City and ATIM Consulting, to an audience of Vietnamese companies interested in engaging with the Canadian market: https://lnkd.in/gH_sK6Vy The presentation focused on providing information and key considerations for Vietnamese companies looking to successfully engage with new Canadian partners, including: ✅ Commercial Trends: Bilateral trade between Canada and Vietnam reached over $10 Billion USD in 2023, and is expected to continue to grow in the years to come. Major exports from Canada include agri-foods and forestry products, while major exports from Vietnam include electronics, textiles/garments/footwear, furniture, and food products. Key trade drivers include growing interest from Canadian businesses to diversify both their supply chains and the markets they sell to, Vietnam's rapidly growing market and production capabilities, and bilateral government initiatives. ✅ CPTPP: With Canada and Vietnam both being part of the CPTPP, it is crucial for businesses to understand its associated advantages and requirements. For example, Rules of Origin regulations apply, requiring documentation on input materials to determine whether a product qualifies for tariff exemptions. ✅ Meeting Expectations: Vietnamese companies must be prepared to effectively approach Canadian partners. This includes demonstrating an emphasis on advanced capabilities, quality control processes, international certifications, and strong communications. ✅ Approaching the Canadian Market: To be successful, businesses must dedicate the time and resources necessary to properly evaluate potential, define their market entry model, and understand regulatory requirements. 📢 How The Herbers Agency Can Help: ✅ Connecting New Partners: The Herbers Agency has proudly worked with clients from Canada, Korea and the USA to develop sourcing projects, market entry strategies, and business development strategies in Vietnam. We are always ready to engage with Vietnamese partners to support these objectives. ✅ Proactive Support: As the market representative for Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP (Osler) - one of Canada's oldest and largest legal services providers - we are ready to engage with and directly support Vietnamese companies considering expanding into Canada. Vietnam M&A Market in the First Half of 2024: Trends and Opportunities for For International Investors M&A in Vietnam In 2024, the number of M&A transactions in Vietnam slightly decreased, but the transaction value increased by nearly 9% compared to the same period last year. The real estate market recorded an average transaction value of $179.7 million, compared to $81.8 million in the same period last year. Notably, Vingroup’s divestment from Vincom Retail, valued at $982.3 million, significantly boosted the value of real estate M&A transactions. Opportunities Many domestic businesses continue to face challenges related to capital sources, presenting unique opportunities for international investors. Vietnam continues to maintain a high GDP growth rate, attracting the interest of foreign investors, particularly from the US, Singapore, Japan, and South Korea. Future Prospects Healthcare, education and technology sectors remain priority areas of focus for M&A in Vietnam. Despite recent challenges, the real estate sector continues to attract investor interest due to its long term economic growth potential, rooted in rising GDP, the trend of manufacturing relocating to Vietnam and high urbanization rates. Additionally, the manufacturing, trade, and service sectors continue to drive Vietnam’s economic growth. M&A Opportunities International Investors have opportunities to invest in or acquire companies in Vietnam that are well-positioned for exponential growth. Healthcare, education, technology, and advanced manufacturing are examples of sectors with promising opportunities. Additionally, international investors may consider investing in industrial, commercial or residential real estate in Vietnam. Despite challenges in recent years, these sectors are expected to yield results in the long-term as Vietnam continues to urbanize and industrialize. Simultaneously, legal issues related to ownership and planning are gradually being resolved, making it easier for international investors to complete procedures and implement projects more efficiently. Finally, international investors may enter the Vietnam market as a strategic investor, through acquiring companies already operating locally.
