It’s been a long time coming, but it looks like Android 2.2 is finally ready for Samsung Vibrant and Fascinate devices.
That’s the good news.
The bad news is that the update is only going to Canadian users for the time being.
Galaxy S Vibrant users who are with Bell, Virgin Mobile and SaskTel, and Galaxy S Fascinate users who are with Telus, should be able to update their devices any time now.
While Canadian owners of the Vibrant on Bell did receive a small taste of Froyo a few weeks ago, that taste quickly turned sour as the update wreaked havoc on phones with reports of the internal storage being rendered inaccessible. Samsung quickly pulled the update until their tech team could fix the problem.
If all goes smoothly, this could pave the way for users here in the States to finally get their 2.2 update, although there is some speculation that Samsung may hold off and go straight to Gingerbread.
