Motorola Is On Track To Continue Their Droid Lineup Domination Through 2011

The three new Droid entries were posted on our site earlier, but this time we have the rumored specs to go along with the photos of the beasts heading to a Verizon store near you. While the Droid X2 and the Droid 3 continue in the path of their predecessors, the Droid Tegra is shaping up to be the phone of year.

Droid Lineup Still Does What iDon’t

Droid X2

The pictured Droid X2 looks almost identical to the original flagship device from last year. As a Droid X user I love the look and feel of the original , but I did hope they would differentiate it a little more than just  the removal of the hardware camera button. An update to the original X software added a shutter button on-screen which is much more user-friendly, however I can’t help but to think this was a mishap on their part. The ability to pick up the phone and with the single press of  a button turn it instantly into a camera is one of the features I enjoy most.

Inside the huge 4.3″ X2 is where the big changes are taking place. The specs are rumored to be a 1 GHz Tegra 2, 4.3 inch qHD display, 512 MB RAM and the addition of a front facing camera. It shares almost all of its hardware with the Droid Bionic the only difference being the Droid x2 will not feature a LTE radio and will remain a 3G device.

It should be available at the start of Q3 for $149-199 with a 2-year contract.

Droid 3

The Droid 3 continues on as one of the premier Android devices to feature a full QWERTY keyboard. In terms of horsepower Motorola is returning to Texas Instruments the manufacturer of all previous Droid processors with the dual-core 1 GHz OMAP4430 CPU. The screen has increased in size and quality to a 4 inch qHD display to go along with the addition of a front facing camera.

The Droid 3 should arrive in Q3 along with the Droid X2. As of now it is said to be remaining on 3G.

Droid Targa

The Droid Targa is definitely the star of the family and it should ship with the highest specs of any phone to date. Motorola was the first to release a dual core smartphone with their Atrix 4G and looks to be the first to quad-core with the Targa. Nvidia has already previewed a working version of their quad-core Tegra 3 and it is said to be up to 5x faster than the Tegra 2. It appears to have a 4.3″ display a front facing camera and a powerful 12 megapixel rear shooter.

An equally exciting story is that the Targa is rumored to be a pure Google experience. The report corresponds with earlier news that Motorola will be making the next Google Nexus device. The beastly Targa is rumored to be a near Christmas release keeping with the Nexus S release timeline.

Motorola And Verizon Are Releasing An Android Onslaught In 2011

Verizon is already on schedule to have the best smartphone lineup of the year, but these new Droids put them in a whole new league. Motorola and Verizon are continuing on with their friendly relationship and hey if it’s not broke don’t fix it. The Verizon customer is the real winner in all of this receiving a great group of shiny new Droids to go along with the speedy new LTE network.
