When Google announced the official name for Android L and the version just a little while ago, they also listed the phones that would be receiving the update officially straight from Google.  One phone that was missing from that list was the Nexus 4, and since it launched more than 18 months ago everyone seemed to have assumed that it had been officially moved to end of life status.  Thankfully for those still hoping to hold on to their Nexus 4 it seems like Google will actually be officially supporting the aging device which is really excellent news.  Right now the Nexus 4’s biggest problems are still the battery life and camera, both of which could be improved with Android L’s new camera shooting capabilities and battery saving features.

Google has already updated their official blog posting that detailed the Nexus 6, 9 and Player announcements as well as Android 5.0 Lollipop to reflect all the devices that would be getting official Android Lollipop updates straight from Google.   Besides the new devices which will obviously ship with Android 5.0 Lollipop, the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 will all be getting the update.  This covers all of Google’s portfolio from the past two years and signals a great trend among software updates for aging phones.  Google clarified this information on Google+ just a little while after the first blog post, responding to plenty of outrage that had been stirred up on the Internet after the Nexus 4 was left out of the official Lollipop update list.  As always Google loves to joke around, and it’s nice to see them still supporting users who are on older devices.
