Yesterday we ran an article about the launch of the Celkon Xion S CT695, a 6.95-inch phablet and today we bring you news that Lenovo has launched the A7-30 3G, a 7-inch tablet with voice calling. It’s yet another example of how the lines distinguishing between phablet and tablet are getting blurrier all the time.

So what does the Lenovo A7-30 3G tablet have to offer? Well, it’s powered by a Quad-Core MediaTek (MTK8382M) processor that is clocked at 1.3GHz with 1GB of RAM available for multi-tasking purposes. There’s 16GB of internal storage present, which you can increase by up to 32GB thanks to the included Micro-SD card slot. The 7-inch multitouch display has a resolution of 1024 x 600. The A7-30 3G tablet features dual front-facing speakers with Dolby Digital Plus technology which make the tablet handy for watching media or listening to music. There is also the obligatory 3.5mm headphone jack on the top of the tablet.

The Lenovo A7-30 3G weighs in at 327 grams, with dimensions of 119.8 x 198 x 9.98mm, so it’s not going to be a comfortable fit in your front trouser pocket. You’ll probably have to wear cargo pants or some sort of jacket to carry the A7-30 3G around with you in any sort of comfort. You could also make use of the included Bluetooth connectivity and carry the A7-30 3G in your backpack while using a Bluetooth earpiece to conduct your conversations. Power is stored in the handily sized 3,500mAh battery, which should keep you going a full day with normal usage. There is a single slot for your 3G SIM card, with which you can make voice calls and send texts as well as the usual tablet functions. A-GPS/WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0 are all present and accounted for. So as well as making calls, the A7-30 3G tablet can also take over sat-nav duties if necessary.

The cameras aren’t anything to write home about, but the 2MP camera on the rear and a 0.3Mp camera on the front of the tablet will do the job so long as you adjust your expectations. The A7-30 3G is running Android version 4.2 Jelly Bean at launch, with an upgrade to 4.4 KitKat promised at a date yet to be confirmed.

And finally, we get to the price. the Lenovo A7-30 3G tablet can be purchased for Rs. 9,999 ($163). What do you think? Is the A7-30 3G a viable alternative to the admittedly cheaper Celkon ‘phablet’ that was previously mentioned? Let us know at our Google Plus page.
