Gmail has been around since February 2007, and since its initial release, the application has provided users with a simpler way to read their email and also search within thousands of emails. But, Gmail has never faced any major changes to how the core service works; which means that the application as a whole works almost the same as it did almost nine years ago. The team behind Gmail didn’t want to compromise the way users interact with the application, so instead of releasing a game-changer update, a whole new application, called Inbox, was born. Just like Gmail, Inbox was at first an invite-only service; this created an incredible demand for the innovative Google Inbox. Today, after eight months only allowing users with an invitation to use the app, the team behind Gmail has made Inbox available for everyone; and has added several new features to celebrate the public release.

Back in October 2014, Inbox was released in a private testing phase, to which only select users with invitations had access. Inbox since its launch, was available on Android, iOS, and the desktop version of the Chrome browser. The team behind Inbox included numerous features to differentiate the application from the already well-adopted and hugely popular, Gmail; features like the ability to snooze new messages and pin important emails. The main feature for Inbox is how the application automatically sorts all your emails into groups, where depending on the content, arriving emails will be bundled together. Another great characteristic is how Inbox intelligently displays the content inside new messages in a Google-Now style.

With the application finally available to everyone, Inbox was updated with a brand new feature to mobile; the ability to take back an email that was just sent out. This is an extremely useful feature for anyone that has accidentally sent an email with a typo or to the wrong recipient. Inbox will now seamlessly include the user’s Google Keep to-do lists, and suggest the creation of new Reminders for said lists, inside the application in order for the user to have all the information he or she needs without ever having to leave Inbox.
