The Sony Xperia Z3 may not be the newest flagship from the company as they recently announced the Xperia Z3+ (known as Xperia Z4 for users in Japan) although it is not yet available. Still, differences between those devices are pretty hard to notice and since the Xperia Z3 is a relatively new device it was more than likely that it would get the operating system updated to Android Lollipop. Sony was actually one of the last OEMs to update their handsets to Lollipop, but they have been doing so to a lot of devices including the 2-year-old Xperia Z.

We knew Lollipop would arrive soon to the T-Mobile branded devices as it was listed in the carrier’s Support page, first at the Manufacturer Development section, which means Sony has already sent the approved update and now it must pass through the carrier’s approval. Then T-Mobile should tweak some things around and then test it for bugs or any other issue. About two weeks ago, the Xperia Z1s and the Xperia Z3 were in this second stage but now we share some good news for the owners of the latter device. Des Smith from T-Mobile has tweeted that the Xperia Z3 will be getting the update starting tomorrow, it actually starts at midnight on Pacific Time, for those of you who can’t wait, though it is safe to assume that not all of the devices will be updated at the same time.

Sony’s customization of Android has always been on the lighter side, leaving most elements like you would find them in Nexus devices and this is no exception. The new notifications, as well as the brighter colors and animations inspired by the new design language from Lollipop, remain almost intact and the ability to modify the icons in the Quick Settings menu is one of the features Sony has added to the operating system. After the update you can create profiles in case you want to borrow your phone to someone else with the certainty that that person won’t be able to see your information and it is now possible to move some apps to the SD Card to free some space. Last but not least, Band 12 will now be supported, giving users the opportunity to enjoy LTE speeds.
