Today, Google took the wraps off of the name of the new version of Android. It’s officially going to be Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Google now has the new statue up on the lawn outside of building 43. Which is where all of the Android employees are located and work hard on the most popular mobile operating system in the world. Now, if you’re an Android fan you probably know everything about these statues, and that Google has a new one for every new version of Android that they put out.
You may remember the Google project from Nat & Lo, where they are going around Google and giving us some behind-the-scenes stuff, which is actually really cool. The pair went behind-the-scenes for Marshmallow, in a somewhat fun but also interesting video, which you can see at the bottom of this post.
The Android statues are actually made in New Jersey and then driven all the way to Mountain View, CA. Where they are then assembled and placed on the lawn. Where the Android robot holding a Marshmallow gets to join his other siblings. Like Lollipop, KitKat, Jelly Bean, Ice Cream Sandwich, Honeycomb, Gingerbread, Froyo, Eclair, Donut, and Cupcake.
So the statues are actually made of styrofoam. Which actually makes a lot of sense. Seeing as they sit out in the California sun 24/7, 365 days a year and also are there for years and years. The statues in front of building 43 have become somewhat of a tourist attraction now. You’ll see many people head to Google’s campus to take pictures with the statues there.
Android M is now Marshmallow. And they hype train has begun. The name and version number are official. We got the final preview today and should have a hardware announcement from Google pretty soon. If I were a betting man, I’d say it’ll be here before the end of September. But that’s just me. We’re still looking at two Nexus devices, with one from LG and the other from Huawei. We definitely can’t wait to get our hands on both of those, as well as the final “stable” version of Android 6.0 Marshmallow, later this fall.
