Google Fiber has had quite the slow rollout since it was first launched in Kansas City, and while Google continues to work with different city officials and show interest of setting up in various other areas, they’re not forgetting about the places where they already service customers. Typically when Google Fiber has entered a city for availability, it has done so only in a select portion of the city at first with plans for expansion and roll out into other areas at later dates. Today, Google is announcing a continued expansion in Kansas City (which was Fiber’s first location) and will be introducing Google Fiber into new Fiberhoods.
While much of Kansas City has already been covered and has had access to the Google Fiber services, citizens in the Olathe East neighborhood of Kansas City will just now be getting their first chance at trying out the services Google has to offer. The services are already live and those who reside in the area are capable of heading over to the Google Fiber website and doing a search for their address to check and signup for service. As with any of the other Fiberhoods Google has three total packages on offer which users can currently sign up for.
These packages begin at $0 a month for basic internet services which offers speeds of up to 5Mbps download and 1Mbps upload, and while there is no monthly cost for the service, the speeds are quite a bit slower and there is a $300 connection fee. The next tier up is $70 a month and comes with 1,000 Mbps upload and download, along with 1TB of cloud storage for Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos. Lastly there’s the $130 a month package which also comes with the 1,000Mbps upload and download speeds and 1TB of cloud stroage, and access to 150+ TV channels with the ability to record up to 8 channels at once so you don’t miss shows. Currently not all of the Olathe East area of Kansas City is available to sign up, but expansion will be continuing to roll out to new parts of the area as signup goals are met for those locations.
