Most of us holding an Android device are waiting for news regarding the update to the latest version of the operating system called Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Currently, only a few devices including Google’s Nexus products are running this version and we’ve got some official statements with lists of the devices that will get updated from manufacturers like HTC, Motorola, Sony, Huawei and LG. Since this version of the OS doesn’t introduce many visual changes, the companies won’t have to customize many aspects, so we could expect the arrival of the update in a not too distant future, still almost none of the companies have given a release date.

HTC was the first one to announce that some of their devices could get updated before the end of the year. Plus, they recently introduced the One A9, which is already running Marshmallow, proving that they already have figured out the new software. Since the One M8 made it into the list of the devices that are getting the update (in fact it was supposed to be among the first ones to get updated), it was pretty safe to assume that the Google Play Edition (GPe) of that phone would get it as well. Let’s remember that GPe devices use a version of Android that is not customized, so they usually get updated much faster.

The company had promised that they would update the One M8 GPE in October, but since that month is already gone, HTC’s Mo Versi communicated that the update has indeed been delayed. He tweeted a few days ago: “HTC (M8) GPe – We’ve come across a slight delay and required to re-spin SW. I am expecting TA within next few days and will keep you posted”. While he didn’t provide an explanation for such delay, it’s good to know that the situation is acknowledged. We’ll keep you posted when we get more information about the release of the update, which shouldn’t be too far away. HTC has been working really hard on making the update process faster, as they promised that the One A9 would get new updates fifteen days after Google releases them for Nexus devices.
