Android users will be well versed in the issues of receiving an update to their device and its dependency on manufacturers and carriers to make newer versions of the system available to their devices, although it is slowly changing. Last year’s model of the Moto X is still a really good option for a smartphone, since it offers some great specs for a good price. However, as it was launched about a year ago, users were still stuck on Android 5.1 Lollipop. Starting from today, 2nd Gen Moto X users can rejoice as some countries started receiving an update which brings Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
According to the information, the update is already available to everyone in India, and further details are coming through that users from other countries are also reporting that they have got it, including Germany and Brazil. The update has 885 MB and brings in important Marshmallow features such as Now on Tap for context-aware Now queries, Doze Mode to save on battery, granular app permissions and more. It also removes some of Motorola own apps, including Moto Assist and Moto Migrate, as Marshmallow comes with similar features. According to Motorola, users in Latin America, Canada, Europe and Asia excluding China will get the update for their 2014 Moto X, while, in the U.S., the Moto X Pure Edition will be the one. Additional 2014 devices that will be getting Android 6.0 Marshmallow in the coming future are the Moto Maxx, Moto Turbo, Moto G and Moto G LTE, DROID Turbo and Nexus 6.
Motorola has been doing a great job at keeping their phones up to date, and apart from some updates from Samsung and a Poland-only LG update, the company is one of the first to offer Marshmallow to its users. This will be great news for Motorola owners, but unfortunately there’s no word on older Moto X and Moto G devices, as they could benefit a lot from Android 6.0 new features for lower-spec devices. However, update plans can change and they were actually altered according to user demand. So it is likely that more Motorola news will be coming through sooner rather than later.
