Samsung's clamshell juggernaut
The foldable smartphone market is being dominated by these devices, clamshell foldables. Well, Samsung's latest and most powerful clamshell foldable is the Galaxy Z Flip 6. You can order the Galaxy Z Flip 6 today. This phone brings the best that Samsung has to offer and not just when it comes to the hardware. The hardware innovations were lacking in this iteration, but it's what's going on underneath the hardware that matters.
The Galaxy Z Flip 6 is the first in the line to be built from the bottom up for AI. It comes with Samsung's Galaxy AI onboard, and this gives it an arsenal of fun and useful AI tools. For example, there's the Sketch to Image feature that allows you to draw a rudimentary drawing over an image, and the AI will create what it thinks you drew. Another example is the Interpreter mode. When you're talking to someone who speaks a different language, you'll be able to have a live conversation with them. The phone will translate what you say and show the translation on the outer display.
The Galaxy Z Flip 6 has Samsung's One UI 6.1.1, and this is the most advanced version of Samsung's Android skin. With it, you get all of the most advanced features that the company has to offer. Many of them involve AI. For example, Sketch to Image made its way over to Samsung Notes.
Samsung delivered a great hardware experience. The biggest change is the addition of dust resistance. It's IP48 water and dust-resistant. This means that it can be submerged in up to 1.5m of fresh water for up to 30 minutes. As for dust, you're protected from particles up to 1mm in diameter.
In our Galaxy Z Flip 6 review, we found that this phone is one of the best clamshells on the market.
