Almost every Android user must be waiting on the news of when their devices might get updated to the newest version of Android, called Marshmallow. Currently, only a few devices are running this version, including Google’s Nexus devices, the HTC One A9 and some variants of the LG G4. Most companies will be tweaking the new software to improve some aspects and make sure it runs smoothly on their handsets. Motorola is known for updating their phones to newer versions of the OS a little faster than others, as they usually don’t modify many elements and only install a few apps to enhance the overall experience.

The company is also known for their “soak tests” which consist in testing almost final software on a reduced amount of phone,s so that they can provide feedback and perhaps find a few bugs and then the company can fix them before releasing the software to a larger number of handsets. It was reported that the soak test of Android Marshmallow for the Moto X Pure Edition would arrive around this date and now, some users in the US who registered for the test last week are receiving the update. The criteria to be accepted into one of these tests is not clear, but those who got in will be notified soon to download the software with system version 24.11.18. If no major issues are found on the software, the company will be expected to release the update for more devices in the next couple of weeks.

Some additional Motorola models currently testing Android Marshmallow are the Moto G that, which was released this year, as well as the model released last year, so it’s clear that the company is working hard in bringing this update to as many devices as it can. As for the improvements included in this release, there is a new memory manager to check memory usage for each app, volume controls were improved and the Do Not Disturb function is more accessible, System UI Tuner will appear in the Settings menu allowing users to tweak some UI elements. Google Now On Tap will be available as well as the Doze mode to save battery, among other changes. Plus the Moto X Pure Edition was said to get support for LTE Band 12 to be used with T-Mobile’s network.
