Some users of the factory unlocked international model of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (SM-N910F) are apparently getting an Android Marshmallow build rolled out to them, as per some reports doing to the rounds of the internet. The origin of the report is Hungary, where one Note 4 owner posted a video on YouTube, supposedly showing the device running the latest flavor of Android. While Samsung is yet to officially roll out the update in any region around the world, Marshmallow had already been spotted on the Note 4 earlier this week. Now this is not the first time that users of Samsung’s premium phablets have found unofficial Marshmallow builds being rolled out to them allegedly by mistake. It was only last month that at least one Galaxy Note 5 user on T-Mobile got a taste of Marshmallow thanks to a leak.
Coming back to the current report coming out of Hungary, the aforementioned Note 4 owner, with YouTube username ‘ardaiaron’, has now uploaded a seven and a half minute video on his YouTube channel. The uploaded video purports to show a Marshmallow build running on a smartphone, said to be the Galaxy Note 4. The new software, admittedly an early build, seems to be very much a work in progress, with ardaiaron not having too many complementary things to say about the update. There’s apparently an extensive list of cons and annoyances laid out, including considerable lag in loading apps, incorrectly sized icons and random error messages like “Samsung Cloud has stopped”, which may or may not be the result of a synchronization error. There are also compatibility issues with some apps.
On the plus side meanwhile, Samsung’s ‘Air Command’ functionality seems to have been ported over from the Note 5. That means the device now gains the ability to accept written input with the screen turned off. Also, the battery life thankfully hasn’t taken a turn for the worse with the latest update. Although, the ‘Standard’ power saving mode is now nowhere to be found after updating the device to Marshmallow. The ‘Ultra’ saving mode however, stays on. Samsung of course, is expected to work on this build over the next few days and weeks trying to address the problems, so by the time the update hits primetime, most of the aforementioned issues would have been ironed out.
