Samsung recently launched its Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge smartphones, but that doesn’t mean it has forgotten about its last year’s Galaxy S6 line of smartphones. The South Korean company has recently been rolling out Android Marshmallow to last year’s flagships around the world, and now it’s India’s turn. Most leading Android OEMs are either done rolling out Marshmallow to their respective 2015 flagships or are in the process of doing so currently, so users of the aforementioned devices in India will now be happy that it is finally their turn to experience the latest version on Android on their smartphones.

According to reports carried by sections of the country’s tech media, the Galaxy S6 update comes with a file size of about 1.2 GB, while the download for the S6 Edge and S6 Edge+ are also said to be of similar sizes. The updates are live as of this Friday and are available over-the-air, but reports indicate that it isn’t available on Smart Switch just as yet. The new software is expected to reach every Galaxy S6, S6 Edge and S6 Edge+ user across the country over the next few days but those yet to get the notification should be able to check for it manually by going over to Settings > About Device > Software Update. Samsung officially announced the start of the Marshmallow rollout for its Galaxy S6 range of smartphones last month itself, but said that it will “make separate announcements on details of OS updates schedule for each market according to market situation and carriers’ requirements”.

Coming to some of the details regarding the incoming update, the update will take the Galaxy S6 line to Android 6.0 and not Android 6.0.1, which is technically the newest version of Marshmallow from Google. The software will bring the usual native Marshmallow features to the phone, including Google Now on Tap, an all-new app drawer and an app permissions manager, in addition to the battery saving feature called ‘Doze’ that turns off network connections when the phone is not in use. Samsung also has a newer, lighter TouchWiz UI that has generally got the thumbs up from the media and users alike.
