Each month the latest figures come in from various data crunching sources and provide a good deal of insight into the current Android landscape. One of the most talked about sets of data is the official Android distribution numbers which typically come through on a monthly basis. These provide an insight to what versions of the Android operating system are currently in use on devices. Last month saw (what was then the latest version of Android) Android Marshmallow, finally passing the 15-percent marker. Now, the latest Android distribution figures have been made public and they are relevant to data collected in the seven-day period leading up to September 5, 2016.

In terms of the latest figures, Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) is now riding high at 18.7-percent, which marks a steady increase from last month’s 15.2-percent figure. Moving on and Android 5.x (Lollipop) now comes in at a combined 35-percent, which is slightly down from last month’s 35.5-percent figure. This further breaks down as 13.1-percent for Android 5.0 (down from 14.1-percent) and 21.9-percent for Android 5.1 (up from 21.4-percent). Android 4.4 (KitKat) is also another Android version which sees a decrease this month, as it has now slipped down to 27.7-percent, down from 29.2-percent in August. While Android 4.1.x – 4.3 (Jelly Bean) now resides on 15.6-percent (down from 16.7-percent). This breaks down as 5.6-percent for Android 4.1.x (down from 6-percent), 7.7-percent for Android 4.2.x (down from 8.3-percent) and 2.3-percent for Android 4.3 (down from 2.4-percent). Moving further back and Android 4.0.3 – 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) now sits at 1.4-percent which is down from last month’s 1.6-percent, while Android 2.3.3 – 2.3.7 (Gingerbread) is also down from last month’s 1.7-percent to its current 1.5-percent level. As to be expected, there is no change to the bottom with Android 2.2 (Froyo) still residing on its default 0.1-percent.

Of course, with Android 7.0 (Nougat) now officially here, some will likely be expected to see what the figure is for Nougat. While Nougat it is not actually available on any shipped devices just yet, Nexus owners are able to update their devices. However, the figures offered today have yet to see Nougat making an appearance, which does likely mean that the number for Nougat is still below that 0.1-percent marker. Although, that is an aspect which could change next month when the next set of numbers come through.
